Romanian tennis reported two important victories last week. Romanian players won the doubles events in two major WTA tournaments.
On Saturday, the pair made up of Monica Niculescu and Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium won the doubles final at the WTA tournament in Washington, totaling 227 thousand dollars in prize money. In the final, the two outperformed Shuko Aoyama and Risa Ozaki, both of Japan, 6-4, 6-3.
On Sunday, Andreea Mitu and Alicja Rosolska of Poland won the doubles event at the WTA tournament in Bastad, Sweden, totaling 227 thousand dollars in prize money. Mitu and Rosolska won the final event against Lesley Kerkhove of the Netherlands and Lidia Morozova of Belarus, 6-3, 7-5.
