HANDBALL - Romania’s male handball side Potaissa Turda has qualified for the semis of the Challenge Cup. The Romanians defeated Dudelange, a side from Luxembourg in the quarterfinals. Both games were held in Turda, western Romania. Potaissa secured a 32 –29 win in the first game on Saturday and a 36-35 victory the next day. Potaissa will be up against Valur Reykjavik of Iceland in the semifinals. Valur comes after a double win against Serbian side Sloga Pozega. The Romanians’ first game against Valur is due on April 22nd or 23rd in Iceland, while the return game will be played in Turda on April 29th or 30th.
FOOTBALL - Last weekend saw the games in the play-off/play-out phase of Romania’s first football league. In the play-offs on Saturday, CFR Cluj trounced 4-1 Universitatea Craiova, while on Saturday FCSB, formerly known as Steaua, obtained a two-one win against archrivals Dinamo Bucharest on the National Arena in Bucharest. In the play-out on Friday, Pandurii Targu Jiu defeated Concordia Chiajna one-nil while FC Botosani clinched a two-nil win against ASA Targu Mures. On Saturday, Poli Iasi obtained a one-nil home win against Timisoara, while on Sunday FC Voluntari versus Gaz Metan Medias ended in a draw, two-all. (Translated by D. Bilt)
