The Romanian tennis player Simona Halep lost 6-1, 6-1 to Ukraine's Elina Svitolina in the semifinals of the Toronto WTA tournament worth 2,434,389 dollars. Svitolina went on to win the title, defeating Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki 6-4, 6-0.
The Romanian road racing cyclist Serghei Tvetcov from the team Jelly Belly Maxxis won the third stage of the Colorado Classic in Denver, the US. Italy's Manuel Senni leads the general classification followed by Tvetcov, who is 15 seconds behind him, and the US cyclist Alex Howes, who is 31 seconds behind the leader.
Also from cycling, the Austrian road racing cyclist Patrick Bosman won the 11th edition of the Tour of the Szekely Land that finished in Miercurea Ciuc, central Romania. He beat Germany's Christian Mager by 7 seconds and Moldova's Nicolae Tanovitchii by 13 seconds.
To football next, as Lazio Rome, the team of the Romanian defender Stefan Radu, won the Italian Super Cup, defeating Juventus Turin 3-2 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. The Romanian goal-keeper Ciprian Tatarusanu made his debut in the French Ligue 1, but his team FC Nantes lost 1-nil to Olympique Marseilles in a second leg match as part of the French championship. The Romanian striker Claudiu Keseru scored two goals for Ludogorets Razgrad in a match against FK Vereya Stara Zagora, which the former won 3-1 at home in the fifth leg of the Bulgarian football championship.
We end with a look at the results of the 6th leg matches of the Romanian domestic championship. All matches played on Friday and Saturday ended in a draw: Poli Timisoara held Vittorul Constanta to a goalless draw; Concordia Chiajna drew 1-all against Juventus Bucharest; as did FCSB against Astra Giurgiu.
