A look at the main sprting events this weekend.
The Romanian football club Steaua Bucharest drew 1-all against Terek Grozny of Russian Premier League in a friendly match played in Turkey. Scoring for Steaua was Gabi Enache from penalty kick on 56 minutes, while the goal for the Russian side was scored by Senegalese Ablaye Mbengue on 33 minutes, after a pass by Romanian Gabriel Torje. Steaua’s next fixture is set on Saturday, when the Romanian footballers will take on Slovan Bratislava of Slovakia. On January 31, Steaua will play Wisla Krakow of Poland, while the last friendly match is scheduled on February 2, when Steaua will play Hajduk Split of Croatia.
Also in Turkey, Pandurii Targu Jiu won 1-nil the match against Istikol Dushanbe of Tajikistan. In the six matches played so far in Antalya, the team from Gorj grabbed one win, lost once and drew three times. In the first three games last week, Pandurii drew 1-all against FC Anji Makhachkala, 2-all against FC Krylia Sovetov Samara and nil-all in the match against FC Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk, all three teams from Russia. Then on Monday Pandurii lost nil-1 to Lechia Gdansk of Poland and won 1-nil against Jagiellonia Białystok, also of Poland.
This weekend two rounds of the World Cup in Women’s Ski Jumping are scheduled to take place in Rasnov, near Brasov, central Romania. According to the Romanian Ski and Biathlon Federation, the world’s best 30 ski jumpers are expected to take place in the competition, including Japanese Sara Takanashi, who is ranked 1st in World Ski Jumping rankings. Dana Haralambie of Romania is the best-rated Romanian player, currently ranked 33rd.
