Der Nationalpark des M\u0103cin-Gebirges ist das einzige Gebiet in der EU, wo steppenspezifische \u00d6kosysteme auf W\u00e4lder des unteren Mittelmeers und des Balkans aufeinandertreffen. Er ist Teil des Netzwerks Natura 2000 und der einzige Nationalpark in Europa f\u00fcr den Schutz und die F\u00f6rderung der biologischen Vielfalt in einem Steppengebiet. Das Gebirge ist das trockenste in Rum\u00e4nien und ist dennoch eines der vielf\u00e4ltigsten, auch weil es f\u00fcr die Wanderv\u00f6gel an den Fl\u00fcssen Pruth und Sereth wichtig ist. So kommt es auch, dass 29 Raubvogelarten das Gebirge ihr Revier nennen — die meisten in Europa. Viorel Ro\u015fca, Direktor des Nationalparks im M\u0103cin-Gebirge sagt, dass die Natur hier ein echtes Labor eingerichtet hat:<\/p>\n

Wir haben hier \u00fcber 181 Vogelarten, weil die T\u00e4ler und zerkl\u00fcfteten Berge f\u00fcr einzigartige Luftstr\u00f6me sorgen — diesen Aufwind nutzen viele Arten gerne, um aus der H\u00f6he Ausschau zu halten. Aus diesem Grund sieht man hier Raubv\u00f6gel, die in Europa allenfalls noch in Lehrb\u00fcchern erscheinen.\u201c<\/em><\/p>\n

Verschiedene Adler- und Falkenarten sind hier zuhause — so auch der Sakerfalke<\/a>, der vom Aussterben bedroht ist. Vier Nester gibt es hier, drei davon hatten dieses Jahr Nachwuchs. Und nat\u00fcrlich sind auch kleinere V\u00f6gel anzutreffen — japanische Birdwatcher kommen in Scharen und wundern sich, wie viele es hier gibt.<\/p>\n

Abgesehen von den V\u00f6geln weist der Ranger auch auf die maurische Landschildkr\u00f6te, die mit \u00fcber 4000 Exemplaren das Wahrzeichen des Parks ist. Schlangen und Eidechsen treffen Wanderer auf Schritt und Tritt an — die Smaragdeidechse ist eines der sch\u00f6nsten Tiere \u00fcberhaupt. W\u00e4hrend man naturgem\u00e4\u200e\u00df mit gro\u200e\u00dfen S\u00e4ugetieren wie Wildschweinen oder sogar Hirschen rechnet, ist die starke Verbreitung der Schakale in den letzten Jahren erstaunlich — sie sind zum st\u00e4rksten Raubtier aufgestiegen.<\/p>\n

Die Pflanzenvielfalt ist ebenfalls stark ausgepr\u00e4gt, selbst wenn im Gebirge kaum Regen f\u00e4llt: 27 Arten sind nur in der Dobrudscha bekannt, weitere 72 gelten als selten oder bedroht. Unter ihnen sind auch einige, die praktisch direkt dem Felsgestein entsprie\u200e\u00dfen, weil das magmahaltige Mineral reich an N\u00e4hrstoffen ist. Viorel Ro\u015fca sagt, dass die Pflanzen hier ein einzigartiges \u00d6kosystem bilden:<\/p>\n

\u00dcber 1900 Pflanzenarten sind hier anzutreffen — mehr als die H\u00e4lfte aller Pflanzenarten des Landes. Im Fr\u00fchling wachsen auch Maigl\u00f6ckchenarten, die wir nur hier antreffen\u201c.<\/em><\/p>\n

Auf dem Logo des Parks ist eine nur hier anzutreffende Pflanze zu sehen — die Campanula Romanica, eine andere Glockenblume, die einen einzigartigen Anpassungsmechanismus f\u00fcr die extreme Trockenheit entwickelt hat. Aber auch Tulpen und Pfingstrosengew\u00e4chse sind zu finden. Ganz interessant ist eine sehr tief wachsende Buche, die Fagus Taurica, w\u00e4hrend andere Buchenarten erst in 700 Metern gedeihen, f\u00fchlt sich diese Buche schon in 155 Metern sehr wohl. Auf 155 Hektar wachsen viele ihrer Exemplare kompakt und dicht aneinander, sie erreichen zwei Meter im Durchmesser und 40 Meter H\u00f6he, sagt Ro\u015fca abschlie\u200e\u00dfend.
