Currently, prices at gas stations range from 9.93 lei to 10.40 lei (approx. 2 euros). For gasoline, the price of the standard grade appears to have stabilized around 9 lei and 15 bani per liter, although it has not been reduced. The decision was adopted by the government after consultations with market operators as a measure to curb rising fuel prices. Excise tax is one of the three main components of the final price, alongside international oil prices (plus the refining margin) and the distributors\u2019 commercial margin. Added to these is VAT, which amplifies any price change. At the same time, the government has also introduced an additional rule: prices at the gas station may now be updated only once a day, in an effort to reduce volatility and rapid market reactions. On the other hand, the presidency announced that Romania is not currently facing difficulties in securing crude oil and fuel supplies. Following a meeting held on Monday in Bucharest, President Nicusor Dan, the government, and private-sector partners agreed on a mechanism for ongoing communication.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Industry. <\/strong>Romanian Minister of Economy Irineu Dar\u0103u stated, following the bankruptcy of the Damen Shipyard in Mangalia (southeast), one of Europe\u2019s most important shipbuilding industrial hubs, that the facility will not be abandoned. The minister also said that discussions are underway with all parties involved to safeguard strategic interests in the shipbuilding industry. For his part, the company\u2019s court-appointed administrator stated that all wage entitlements will be honored and paid in accordance with current legal provisions. The entry into bankruptcy of the country\u2019s largest shipyard is the result of the creditors\u2019 meeting rejecting the reorganization plan proposed by the judicial administrator. Current operations will be gradually halted, and liquidation proceedings will be initiated.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Attacks. <\/strong>The Romanian Ministry of Defense reported that on Tuesday morning, Russian Federation forces carried out a new series of drone attacks on civilian and infrastructure targets in Ukraine, near the border north of Tulcea County (southeast). The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations was notified to implement measures to alert the population in the area. Air defense systems monitored two aerial targets moving in the border area, without entering national airspace. The air alert has been lifted. The forces of the Ministry of National Defense remain vigilant, maintaining the necessary surveillance and coordination measures to protect the population and the national territory, the source stated.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Iran. <\/strong>After several delays, the UN Security Council is set to vote on Tuesday on a significantly watered-down draft resolution regarding navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, diplomatic sources told AFP. Backed by Gulf countries, Bahrain, a non-permanent member of the Council, launched negotiations two weeks ago on a text that would have provided a clear UN mandate to any state wishing to use force to free this crucial sea lane, which has been blocked by Iran. However, in the face of objections from several permanent members, the text was gradually watered down, and the vote was postponed several times due to the risk of a veto by Russia and China. The latest version of the text continues to condemn Iranian attacks on ships and strongly encourages the affected states to coordinate their efforts\u2014which must be defensive and proportionate to the circumstances\u2014to ensure the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, including by escorting cargo and commercial vessels. The vote is scheduled to take place a few hours before the expiration of the ultimatum set by U.S. President Donald Trump, who threatened to destroy \u201call of Iran\u201d if Tehran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which is vital for the global oil supply. The Iranian military, however, rejected what it called President Trump\u2019s \u201carrogant rhetoric.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Incomes. <\/strong>Household incomes in Romania saw a slight increase at the end of last year, but household expenditures remained high and accounted for the largest share of the budget, according to an analysis by the National Institute of Statistics. On average, a family had an income of 9,454 lei (approximately 1,850 euros) and expenses of 8,075 lei (nearly 1,600 euros). According to the INS, gross wages were approximately 6,500 lei (1,275 euros) per month per household and represented the main source of income. Romanians spent the most money on food, over 30% of their income, with utilities and energy accounting for approximately 16%. The rest of the money was spent on clothing, transportation, and healthcare. Spending on education remained the lowest, at just 26 lei (5.1 euros) per household, or less than one percent of total consumption costs, the NIS further notes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tennis. <\/strong>Romanian tennis player Gabriela Ruse has advanced to the next round of the WTA 500 tournament in Linz, Austria\u2014which offers total prize money of over one million euros\u2014after defeating Britain\u2019s Katie Boulter in two sets. Ruse will face the winner of the match between American Ann Li (seventh seed) and Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska in the second round. Another Romanian, Sorana C\u00eerstea, the fifth seed, will face Austrian Sinja Kraus in the first round, while Jaqueline Cristian, the sixth seed, will take on German player Tamara Korpatsch, who advanced from the qualifiers.
