Romania’s president Klaus
\nIohannis is attending the EU – Turkey summit in Brussels. According to a
\ncommuniqu\u00e9 issued by the Presidential Administration, the summit’s focus is the
\nissue of migration, as Turkey plays a major role in controlling the migration
\nflows towards the Union. The agenda of the summit also includes topics such as
\nthe start of negotiations on Turkey’s joining the EU, as well as the
\nliberalization of visa regulations for the Turkish citizens. On Monday,
\npresident Iohannis will travel to Paris, where, alongside heads of state and
\ngovernment from some 145 countries, he will attend the opening of the 21st
\nsession of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on
\nClimate Change (UNFCCC). The main goal of the conference is to adopt a new
\ninternational agreement on climate change, which would be legally binding for
\nall states, as of January 1st, 2021.<\/p>\n

Representatives of Romanian
\ncommunities abroad have gathered in Alba Iulia and Zlatna, in central Romania,
\nto attend the 19th Congress of Romanian Spirituality. The congress was created
\nby the Cultural League for the Union of Romanians Around the World, with a view
\nto helping these communities maintain ties with the mother land, promoting
\nRomanian culture and spirituality, and urging Romanian officials and NGOs to
\nreally support these communities abroad. Delegates from over 30 countries are
\nattending the Congress. <\/p>\n

A general rehearsal for the
\nmilitary parade on December 1st, Romania’s National Day, was
\norganized in Bucharest this morning. Over 2,600 military and 360 technical
\ndevices will participate in Tuesday’s parade. Romanian soldiers and staff of
\nthe Interior Service and the special services will be joined at the parade by
\ntroops from the Republic of Moldova, Romania’s neighbor with a predominantly
\nRomanian-speaking population. Also participating will be military staff from
\nBulgaria, the US, Poland and Turkey, some of Romania’s NATO allies. December 1st
\nbecame Romania’s National Day after the anti-Communist Revolution of December
\n1989, marking the formation of the Romanian unitary state.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, the famous tenor
\nJose Carreras got the title of Honoris Causa of the ‘Gheorghe Dima’ Music
\nAcademy in Cluj-Napoca, north-western Romania, in recognition for his
\ninternational artistic activity. On Thursday, Jose Carreras gave a concert in
\nBucharest, accompanied by the ‘George Enescu’ Philharmonic Orchestra, and
\ntonight he will be performing in Cluj, alongside the ‘Transylvania’ State
\nPhilharmonics. The two concerts are part of his good-bye tour titled A Life in
\nMusic. In another move, Romanian soprano Angela Gheorghiu is tonight singing
\non the stage of the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest, at an event aimed at
\nraising funds for the victims of the ‘Colectiv’ fire of October 30th, which has
\nkilled 60 people.<\/p>\n

\nSaturday night, in Quebec, the Romanian – Canadian boxer, Lucian Bute, was
\ndefeated by the British James DeGale in a match counting for the IBF world
\ntitle in the super-middleweight category. Lucian Bute thus missed the opportunity
\nto get back the champion title won by DeGale in spring, after defeating the
\nAmerican Andre Dirrell. The Romanian – Canadian pugilist held the title for
\nfive years, before being beaten by the British Carl Froch in 2012.<\/p>\n
