Romania\u2019s female table tennis side has walked away with bronze from the World Table Tennis Championships in London. On Saturday, our players were stopped in their tracks by China, which secured a 3-0 win in the semifinals. Bernadette Szocs, Elizabeta Samara and Andreea Dragoman have brought Romania the first medal in the teams contest this century. The last time our girls stepped onto the podium was in Kuala Lumpur in 2000, when they also got bronze.<\/p>\n
Romania ranks third in a world medal ranking, with five gold, four silver and five bronze medals after China and Japan. Romania\u2019s players got their best performances back in the 50s.<\/p>\n
Gloria Bistri\u021ba won Romania\u2019s Cup in women\u2019s handball. In the finals held in Baia Mare on Sunday, Gloria secured a 31 – 21 win against SCM R\u00e2mnicu V\u00e2lcea. Gloria\u2019s best scorer was Sonia Serafinceanu with seven goals. In the match for the third position, SCM \u201eU\u201d Craiova\u00a0 got a 38 – 27 win against Minaur Baia Mare.<\/p>\n

On Saturday in Gala\u021bi, O\u021belul outperformed Farul Constan\u021ba 3-2, while on Sunday, FC Boto\u0219ani drew their match one-all against Petrolul Ploie\u0219ti. The last matches of the last but one play-out leg are pitching on Monday Metaloglobus against Hermannstadt and FCSB against Unirea Slobozia. Metaloglobus has already demoted to the second football league. With the same number of points, 21, Unirea Slobozia and Hermannstadt are fighting to avoid demotion.
