NATO<\/strong> – The Romanian Interior Minister, Carmen Dan, said on Monday that Romania puts all its effort, alongside its NATO allies, into enhancing stability and preserving peace in conflict areas. Carmen Dan said that at present 105 Romanian policemen and gendarmes are taking part in international missions aimed at managing crisis situations and on stabilising and rebuilding post-conflict areas. Minister Carmen Dan also said that the Romanian Interior Ministry has been actively involved, for the past 19 years, in keeping Romania\u2019s foreign policy commitments.<\/p>\n

FOREIGN POLICY<\/strong> – The Romanian Foreign Minister, Teodor Melescanu, met on Monday in Budapest with his Hungarian counterpart, Peter Szijjarto. Melescanu said that the relationship between Romania and Hungary is a good example for other countries in the region. The Romanian official also said that the two sides plan a joint meeting of he two governments. In turn, the Hungarian Foreign Minister said that there was a need for dialogue in the relation between Romania and Hungary and voiced hope that sensitive issues, such as the one regarding national minorities, would be solved. In Budapest, Melescanu also met with the Hungarian PM Viktor Orban, addressed the annual meeting of Hungarian diplomats and met with representatives of the Romanian community in Hungary.<\/p>\n

COURT<\/strong> – Romanias Constitutional Court on Monday admitted the motion filed by Senate Speaker Calin Popescu Tariceanu, claiming a legal conflict between the Government and the Public Ministry. This comes after the National Anti-Corruption Directorate opened an investigation into how the controversial emergency decree 13, amending the criminal codes, was drawn up.<\/p>\n

INCIDENT<\/strong> — One of the five Romanians injured in Sundays incident in Bellingham, in the south east of Britain, is in critical condition. A driver slammed his car into a group of pedestrians before crashing into a wall. Three of the wounded are in a stable condition, and one has already been released from the hospital, according to the Romanian Foreign Ministry. The authorities continue to investigate the incident.<\/p>\n

MILITARY<\/strong> — A 20 strong unit of the Romanian Land Forces takes part in the multinational military exercise Dynamic Front II, in Germany, ending March 10. The manoeuvres are also attended by around 1,400 troops from the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, the UK, the US, and Turkey. At the same time, Romanian and American troops will start joint training on Tuesday at the Mihail Kogalniceanu mlitary base, as part of Atlantic Resolve Operation, aimed at strengthening the eastern flank of NATO.<\/p>\n

EUROVISION<\/strong> — 10 finalists have emerged to compete for Romanias candidate in the Eurovision song contest. The finals are scheduled for 5 March. The Eurovision contest will take place in Kiev in May. This 60-year-old contest is one of the longest running and most popular television events in the world. Romania has been a participant since 1993. 42 other countries attend it.<\/p>\n

TENNIS<\/strong> — The pair made up of Romanian Horia Tec\u0103u and Dutch Jean-Julien Rojer qualified on Monday to the quarterfinals of the Dubai tennis tournament, worth almost 2.5 million dollars in prize money, after defeating the Croatian-Austrian pair Mate Pavic\/Alexander Peya, 7-6 \/ 6-1. Also for a place in the quarterfinals, Romanian Florin Mergea and Serbian Viktor Troicki will be up against the Russian-French team Karen Haceanov\/ Benoit Paire.<\/p>\n
