The moment that changed the history of gymnastics, and of sport in general, and which had the Romanian athlete as its protagonist, took place in 1976 at the Montreal Olympic Games. There, Nadia Com\u0103neci became the first gymnast in history to receive the perfect score of 10.00. The performance was considered impossible at the time, and the electronic scoreboard, unprepared for such a result, displayed the famous \u201c1.00,\u201d in a moment that entered the history of world sport.<\/p>\n
At only 14 years old, Nadia became the youngest Olympic all around champion, a record impossible to match today after changes to international age eligibility rules. More than a singular achievement, Montreal 1976 marked the beginning of a revolution in gymnastics: Nadia Com\u0103neci earned seven perfect 10s and proved that limits once thought insurmountable could be redefined.<\/p>\n
Nicknamed \u201cThe Goddess of Montreal,\u201d Nadia Com\u0103neci is considered by many specialists to be the greatest gymnast of all time. She introduced into competition extremely difficult elements that still bear her name today, such as the famous \u201cCom\u0103neci salto\u201d on the uneven bars, contributing decisively to the evolution of modern gymnastics. The year 2026 is \u201cThe Nadia Year,\u201d established to mark five decades since the Montreal moment. \u201cThe Nadia Year\u201d brings to One\u0219ti (east), the hometown of the great champion, elite figures of Romanian and international sport, who will take part between May 29\u201331 in events organized to celebrate 50 years since the first perfect 10 in gymnastics history.<\/p>\n
Over the three days, the public will be able to attend competitions, official ceremonies, press conferences, festive moments, and shows dedicated to sporting performance. The program includes the National and International Gymnastics Competitions \u201cNadia Com\u0103neci \u2013 Perfect 10,\u201d the apparatus finals, the official awards ceremony, the launch of the Nadia Com\u0103neci costume collection, as well as the symbolic route \u201cThe Road to Perfection.\u201d<\/p>\n
The events will culminate with the Champions\u2019 Gala, organized at the local stadium, bringing together gymnastics legends and great Olympic champions from multiple sports disciplines. Meanwhile, the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee announced that on June 6, Nadia Com\u0103neci will attend this year\u2019s edition of the National Olympic Day Run in Bucharest, where she will officially start all the races.
