CCR Romania’s Constitutional Court (CCR)
\non Wednesday ruled there is a conflict of state powers regarding the
\nrejection of a request to revoke the head of the National Anti-corruption
\nDirectorate Laura Codruta Kovesi. Justice
\nminister, Tudorel Toader, is the one who notified the Constitutional Court
\nafter Romania’s President, Klaus Iohannis, rejected as ungrounded his request
\nto sack the chief prosecutor of the Anti-Corruption Agency. Toader considers
\nthat the president’s refusal, motivated by the lack of political opportunity,
\nis meant to create an institutional blockage. In the president’s opinion,
\nhowever, this refusal is not the cause of an institutional blockage, but it is
\nthe finalisation of a procedure and the act of exerting legal responsibilities
\nby the head of state. We recall the rejection of the revocation request came
\nafter the Superior Council of Magistracy issued a negative opinion on the line
\nminister’s request, which is a consultative but mandatory opinion in this

VISIT Romanian president
\nKlaus Iohannis will be paying a visit to Munich on Friday and Saturday in order
\nto receive the ‘Franz Josef Strauss 2018’ award from the prestigious foundation
\n‘Hanns Seidel’, the presidential administration announced on Wednesday. According
\nto the same sources the president has been awarded the prize for having
\npromoted in a constructive and visionary way along his entire political career
\nthe democratic values of a united society and trust in the European project.
\nThe ceremony is to be attended among others by the Bavarian Premier Markus
\nSoder and by Barbara Stamm, president of the Landtag of Bavaria. The
\n‘Franz Josef Strauss’ prize has been awarded since 1996 and among its
\nrecipients there are the former German chancellor Helmut Kohl, the former US
\npresident George H. W. Bush and the incumbent president of the European
\nCommission Jean-Claude Juncker. <\/p>\n

AMBASSADOR Romania’s Prime Minister
\nViorica Dancila on Wednesday received in Bucharest the extraordinary and
\nplenipotentiary ambassador of India HE Thanglura Darlong. On this occasion, the
\nRomanian official has highlighted the opportunities for stepping up the
\npolitical dialogue between the two countries, including at high level. Given
\nthat in 2018 the two countries are celebrating 70 years of diplomatic relations
\nand 5 years since the signing of the Extended Partnership, the two officials
\nhave also discussed ways of marking these events in the two countries. <\/p>\n

PRINCE CHARLES
\nRomania’s President, Klaus Iohannis, was having talks in Bucharest on Wednesday
\nwith the heir to the British Crown, HRH the Prince of Wales, the Presidential
\nAdministration announced. Last year, HRH Prince Charles came to Romania several
\ntimes, both on private and official visits. In token of
\nappreciation for his activity in Romania and for promoting its image abroad, in
\n2017, Klaus Iohannnis awarded Prince Charles the Star of Romania National
\nOrder in Rank of Grand Cross. For two decades, the Prince of Wales comes almost
\nevery year to Romania, where he owns several properties. He also runs a
\ncharity, which encourages the preservation of heritage, traditional agriculture
\nand sustainable development in Romania. <\/p>\n
