SUPPORT Athens has activated the EU Civil Protection Mechanism following
\nthe wildfires that engulfed the Attica region, killing at least 79 people and

\nextinguish fires, and a C-130 Hercules, for logistical support. Three days of

AMBASSADOR Upon the nomination of Adrian Zuckerman as the new US ambassador in
\nBucharest, Romania’s Foreign Minister Teodor Melescanu on Wednesday said he was
\nglad the United States had appointed an ambassador who had connections with
\nRomania. Melescanu voiced his conviction the strategic partnership between the
\ntwo countries would go on an upward trend. According to a White House
\ncommuniqu\u00e9, US president Donald Trump announced his intention to nominate
\nlawyer Adrian Zuckerman as the US ambassador to Romania. Zuckerman, who was
\nborn in Romania and immigrated to the USA when he was 10, is fluent in Romanian
\nand currently a partner with a lawyer firm in New York specialized in real
\nestate. Zuckerman has been close to the Trump family for two decades being also
\na well-known member of the New York business circles. If endorsed by Congress,
\nZuckerman will replace the outgoing ambassador Hans Klemm. <\/p>\n

COURT Romania’s Constitutional Court (CCR)
\nis to discuss on September 17th a notification from the country’s
\npresident, Klaus Iohannis, over the amendments to the Penal Code and the Law on
\nthe prevention, investigation and punishing corruption acts, CCR officials told
\nthe news agency AGERPRES on Wednesday. The president on Wednesday notified the
\nCourt over a series of amendments brought to the Penal Code in Parliament,
\nwhich would violate the fundamental law as well as the way in which they were
\nendorsed in an extraordinary session. Among the articles contested by the
\npresident is the redefinition of the abuse in office, the organized crime group
\nand the shortened limitation periods. After the final vote in Parliament earlier
\nthis month, president Iohannis has lashed out at the amendments, which he has
