CULTURE Romania’s Minister of Culture
\nValer Daniel Breaz chaired the Culture and Audiovisual Section of the Council
\nfor Education, Culture, Youth and Sport in Brussels on Thursday. Culture
\nministers from the EU countries on Thursday discussed ways to fight disinformation
\nand regain the citizens’ trust into press. Brussels has already taken measures
\nto improve the digital space while several online platforms have signed a code
\nof good practice. Member countries believe the union needs a better
\ncoordination as well as shared responsibilities in fighting disinformation.
\nThey also support the involvement of the private sector, mainly the online
\nplatforms and the field industry, in this initiative. On Wednesday night, the
\nRomanian minister jointly with European Commissioner Tibor Navracsics presented
\nthe winners of the EU prizes for literature, which included Romanian Tatiana \u0162\u00eebuleac. <\/p>\n

TENNIS Romanian tennis player Sorana
\nCirstea (WTA 93rd) on Thursday qualified for the semifinals of the
\nWTA tournament in Nuremberg, Germany. Cirstea secured a 2-1 win against Nina
\nStojanovic of Serbia in the quarters. The Romanian challenger qualified after
\ndefeating her compatriot Laura Ioana Paar and Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium. She
\nwill be up against the odds-on favourite Yulia Putintseva of Kazahstan. <\/p>\n

FAIR Furniture producers from Romania have
\nfor the second year in a row participated in the International Contemporary
\nFurniture Fair New York – ICFF, an American platform for global design. Over
\nMay 19th and 22nd, the Romanian companies displayed their
\nproducts together with 900 other companies from 72 countries. The Romanian
\nstands were organized by the Ministry for Business Environment, Trade and
\nEntrepreneurship jointly with the Association of Furniture Producers in
\nRomania. According to a communiqu\u00e9 published by the ministry on Thursday, the
\ntalks the Romanian furniture producers held with their foreign counterparts in
\nthe fair are to materialize in 1.2 million Euros worth of orders and contracts.
\nThe Romanian stands were visited by over 15 hundred company representatives
\nfrom Austria, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Denmark, France, India, Mexico,
\nItaly, Poland, Portugal, Spain and the USA. <\/p>\n

VOTING Elections for the new European Parliament have
\nkicked off in the Netherlands and Great Britain, with voting slated for Sunday
\nin Romania. Ireland and the Czech Republic are voting on Friday, with Saturday
\nset aside for voting in Slovakia, Latvia, and Malta. All other states are
\nvoting on Sunday. Romania votes for 33 of the 751 seats in the European
\nParliament. <\/p>\n
