\nDay. <\/strong>The army remains a solid landmark and enjoys public trust, contributing to
\nmaintaining the stability needed to develop Romanian society, said president
\nKlaus Iohannis on Monday at an event to mark Army Day. He thanked all those who
\nserved their country and emphasised that the professionalism and commitment
\nshown by the military in theatres of operation contributed to Romania’s
\nEuro-Atlantic and European path and to the consolidation of its solid Strategic
\nPartnership with the United States. Low-key festivities are held today to
\ncelebrate Army Day, including an event outside the WWII Memorial and the Tomb
\nof the Unknown Soldier in Bucharest, with Romanian Air Forces planes conducting
\na flypast. Similar events are taking place at memorials in honour of Romanian
\nsoldiers in Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic,
\nRussia, Poland, the Republic of Moldova and Hungary. According to defence
\nministry figures, more than 90,000 Romanian soldiers were killed, almost 60,000
\nreported missing in action and more than 330,000 wounded in combat WWII. <\/p>\n

\n100th anniversary of the late King Michael I, Romania’s last
\nsovereign, is celebrated today. Public radio stations are broadcasting a show
\nentitled Romania needs art, produced together with Margareta of Romania Royal
\nFoundation in support of the Young Talent programme. The rooms of the former
\nRoyal Palace now part of the National Museum of Art in Bucharest are today open
\nfor visitors, who can visit the royal reception area, the princes’ staircase
\nand the throne hall, as well as an exhibition of royal portraits containing
\nworks of art depicting King Michael at different ages. The Military Museum is
\nhosting an exhibition entitled Michael I – a century of history. King Michael
\ndied on 5th December 2017 and is buried at the royal necropolis at Curtea de Arge\u015f, where the tombs of his ancestors, kings Carol I,
\nFerdinand and Carol II are also found.<\/p>\n

\nSeas. <\/strong>Romania’s interim minister for agriculture and rural development Adrian
\nOros is attending a summit of agriculture ministers of the Three Seas countries
\nhosted by Cracow, in Poland. Talks are focusing on the impact of the Common
\nAgricultural Policy on the transformation of agriculture and rural areas in the Three Seas
\nregion into a green and digital economy, ways to ensure supply of fodder
\nprotein to the region and the challenges linked to the research and innovation
\nof food systems. The Three Seas Initiative is a forum of 12 EU member states
\nlocated between the Baltic, Adriatic and
\nBlack Seas.<\/p>\n
