NATO Romania will
\nbe taking action for strengthening its defence capabilities, including by
\nallotting 2.5% of its GDP to defence instead of a previous 2.2%, Romanian
\npresident Klaus Iohannis says in a message conveyed on the occasion of the 18th
\nanniversary since Romania applied for joining NATO. According to Iohannis,
\nRomania will continue to promote the partnership between NATO and the EU
\nremaining a staunch ally, a security provider in the Black Sea area dedicated

AID Romanians with low incomes could benefit from vouchers to cope with the
\nnew price hikes affecting the economy. The ruling PSD has proposed the
\nintroduction of vouchers for basic food products for the families with
\nchildren, for the disabled and pensioners. These disadvantaged categories may
\nbenefit from the vouchers every other month. Students from disadvantaged
\nfamilies may also be able to use these vouchers to buy stationery, clothes and
\nfood. The co-ruling PNL has also agreed to the measure. Most of these vouchers
\nare to be funded through European money unspent so far, the country’s Finance
\nMinister, Adrian C\u00e2ciu has announced. In his opinion, 70% of the measures aimed
\nat offsetting the effects of the latest price hikes and the war in Ukraine
\ncould be funded with EU money. <\/p>\n

FUNDS Funds raised
\nduring the humanitarian campaign for the Ukrainian refugees who arrive in
\nRomania, launched by the Romanian embassy in the USA jointly with the Romanian
\nUnited Fund have reached 200 thousand dollars – the Romanian embassy has
\nannounced. According to Ambassador Andrei Muraru, this successful campaign is
\nan example of solidarity in a difficult period of time for the Ukrainian
\ncitizens fleeing the war. The funds will be used for buying food, clothes,
\nmedicines and hygiene items for the refugees as well as for providing
\naccommodation, the right equipment and psychological support. According to UN
\nsources, over 10 million Ukrainians, including more than half of the country’s
\nchildren, have left their homes since the beginning of the war in their
\ncountry. Out of the total number, 6.5 million have been relocated inside the
\ncountry whereas 3.9 million have left it. Out of these roughly 680 thousand
\nhave crossed the border into Romania. <\/p>\n
