SPORTS Former Romanian gymnast Catalina Ponor has become Romania’s 12th
\nathlete to have been included in the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame
\nduring a ceremony hosted by Oklahoma City, the Romanian Gymnastics Federation
\nannounced on Monday. Ponor has thus joined those who have contributed to the
\ndevelopment of this sport discipline such as Tatiana Gutu of Ukraine, Fabian
\nHambuechen of Germany and Chelsie Memmel of the USA. Ponor walked away with
\nfive Olympic medals including three gold, which she got in Athens in 2004. Her
\nprize closet also includes five medals in world championships and eight in
\nEuropean championships. <\/p>\n

WEATHER Temperatures are
\nslightly going down in southern and south-eastern Romania, which are also going

FOOTBALL Romania’s national football side will be taking on
\nBosnia-Herzegovina on Tuesday in their Nations League second away match. In
\ntheir first away game on Saturday night the Romanians conceded a 2-0 defeat to
\nMontenegro, which will be up against Finland on Tuesday. Romania ranks last in
\nits group with no points. <\/p>\n

VISIT Marcel Ciolacu, President of the Chamber of Deputes in Bucharest,
\non Monday held talks in Chisinau with Ion Grosu, president of Parliament in the
\nRepublic of Moldova, an ex-Soviet, Romanian-speaking country. According to Ciolacu
\nthe Republic of Moldova doesn’t need military support but needs to make its borders
\nmore secure and Romania must get involved more in this process. Ciolacu has
\nalso said that the place of the Republic of Moldova is in the EU and Romania’s
\nduty is to help the neighboring country achieve this goal. In turn Igor Grosu
\nannounced a joint session of the two Parliaments to take place in Chisinau.
\nAccording to the Moldovan official, talks focused on infrastructure, on ways of
\neasing cross-border circulation, energy, infrastructure and healthcare. Besides Parliamentary talks, Ciolacu also
\nhas scheduled a series of meetings with the President and Prime Minister of the
\nRepublic of Moldova, Maia Sandu and Natalia Gavrilita, respectively. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

REFUGEES According to
\nthe Romanian Border Police Inspectorate roughly 7,000 Ukrainian nationals
\nentered Romania on Sunday, 17% less than the previous day. Since the beginning
\nof the conflict in the neighboring country, over 1.1 million Ukrainian
\nnationals have crossed the border into Romania. Out of these, 90 thousand
\ndecided to remain but only 2,000 have got jobs in this country. The Romanian
\ngovernment wants to offer support to these refugees to help them get
\nintegrated, learn the language, get a job and access to education for their children.
\nA national plan for the social inclusion of these refugees could be approved
\nthis week. <\/p>\n

SHIP The Romanian
\ntraining ship Mircea today sets sail at Constanta, Romania’s main Black Sea port,
\nfor its second international training voyage. The mission, which is devoted to
\ncelebrating 150 years of Romanian sailing education, involves the participation
\nof Romanian cadets from the ‘Mircea cel Batran’ Navy Academy and their foreign
\ncounterparts from Britain, Poland, Bulgaria and the United States. During the
\ntwo-month voyage, the ship is expected to moor in five ports on the Mediterranean
\n– Augusta, Genoa, Vallencia, Valletta and Alexandria.<\/p>\n
