Romania\u2019s President Nicu\u0219or Dan is currently in New York, along with some 130 other heads of state, to attend the United Nations General Assembly. Security is the dominant theme of the meeting, with a focus on the war launched by Russia in Ukraine and the conflict in the Middle East, as well as on the risks associated with artificial intelligence. \u201cIt is an annual meeting, but this year it is heavily focused on security issues, and Romania, of course, is located in a region facing security challenges. We want to present Romania\u2019s position on this issue and, of course, to engage with other leaders to see how we can coordinate our efforts so that our actions lead to the stabilization of the region,\u201d the head of state said. In the national address he will deliver on Wednesday before the General Assembly plenary session, he will highlight Bucharest\u2019s efforts toward UN reform and the country\u2019s contribution to ensuring peace, security, and a rules-based international order.<\/p>\n

During his meeting in New York with the UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres, he conveyed Romania\u2019s \u201cdeep gratitude\u201d for the Secretary-General\u2019s efforts to find solutions to conflicts around the world and for his commitment to peace, dialogue, and respect for international law. The head of state\u2019s agenda also included meetings with the U.S. Ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz, and with the President of the World Jewish Congress, Ronald Lauder, to whom he conveyed that Romania is prepared to actively participate in the new UN working group dedicated to combating antisemitism. He also thanked the former U.S. ambassadors to Bucharest for their contribution to promoting Romania and for their efforts to strengthen and deepen bilateral relations. He added that the Romania-U.S. partnership is a \u201clong-lasting\u201d achievement, built on \u2018solid foundations.\u2019<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Nicu\u0219or Dan met with representatives of American companies, banks, and investment funds that invest in Romanian bonds and addressed their concerns regarding the political situation in Romania. He also met with Romanians in New York, telling them that he hopes the experience of those who have succeeded in an extremely competitive society can be put to use back home, and that the authorities in Bucharest are seeking closer cooperation with the diaspora. He invited them to take an objective look at Romania and highlighted the country\u2019s current potential. On Monday evening, the president inaugurated the Queen Marie of Romania intersection, near the headquarters of Romania\u2019s Permanent Mission to the UN, where a commemorative plaque was also unveiled to mark the 100th<\/sup> anniversary of the queen\u2019s historic tour of the United States. He also attended the event organized by the Atlantic Council, where he discussed Bucharest\u2019s strategic priorities, namely, the infrastructure the country needs in the coming years and how it can be financed.
