\nanniversary of the Union of the Romanian Principalities was held at Cercle Royal Gaulois in Brussels, bringing together Romanians from
\nRomania and abroad. On 24th January every year, Romanians celebrate
\nthe union of Moldavia and Wallachia under the rule of Alexandru Ioan Cuza, an
\nevent that paved the way for the creation of the modern Romanian state in 1918.
\nThe debate in Brussels, which was organised by the Project Romania 2030
\nAssociation, was also attended by NATO deputy secretary general Mircea Geoan\u0103.
\nIn his address, the latter emphasised the importance of Romania’s current
\nmembership of European and Euro-Atlantic structures. Romania is today a
\nsovereign and independent, unitary and indivisible nation state, recognised and
\nincreasingly respected around the world. It is a member of the most coveted
\nunions of states and forms part of the biggest and strongest military alliance
\non the planet, Geoan\u0103 said. The 164th anniversary
\nof the Union of the Romanian Principalities was celebrated across the country. <\/p>\n

\nBogdan Aurescu at a meeting by videoconference of G7 foreign ministers held on
\nTuesday. The meeting was co-chaired by the US and Japanese top diplomats and focused
\non assessing the situation of Ukraine’s critical infrastructure and the stage
\nof the support granted to Ukraine by the international community to help it
\nmanage the consequences of the Russian attacks. This format of the G7 meeting
\nwas launched in Bucharest in November on the sidelines of a meeting of NATO
\nforeign ministers. <\/p>\n

\nScholz on Wednesday confirmed that Germany will be sending Leonard 2 battle
\ntanks to Ukraine. According to a statement, Berlin intends to provide 14 such
\ntanks from its stocks. Training Ukrainian military to use the vehicles will
\nbegin soon in Germany, and Berlin will put at the disposal of the Ukrainian
\ntroops the ammunition and other needed logistical equipment. Olaf Scholz also
\nannounced that his government will soon issue the permits allowing other
\ncountries to send their own Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. Countries like Poland
\nand Finland, who wish to
\ndeliver German-made Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, must first secure Berlin’s
\napproval. Norway, the Netherlands and the US have also expressed willingness to
\ndeliver battle vehicles to Ukraine. <\/p>\n

\nRomanian police on Tuesday simultaneously carried out together with Dutch,
\nPolish and German authorities a number of searches as part of investigations
\ninto the criminal activities of a group involved in money laundering and
\ninternational drug trafficking. The searches were conducted at various
\nlocations in Romania, The Netherlands and Poland. The police search was
\nassisted by EUROPOL. <\/p>\n

\nthe Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tennis tournament of the year. Ruse
