\nKlaus Iohannis is paying an official visit to Sofia on Wednesday at the
\ninvitation of his Bulgarian counterpart Rumen Radev. According to a statement
\nfrom the Romanian president’s office, the main focus of the visit will be the
\nsigning of a joint declaration on the establishment of the strategic
\npartnership between the two countries. The document will further consolidate
\nbilateral political dialogue, boost economic exchanges and cross-border
\ncooperation, improve connectivity and infrastructure, promote projects to
\ndevelop the Danube region, ensure energy security and promote green energy. The
\ndeclaration also refers to the cooperation in the area of European affairs and
\nthe enhanced cooperation in the areas of defence and security. Klaus Iohannis
\nand Rumen Radev will also have talks on their countries’ common goal of joining
\nthe Schengen area and reiterate their firm commitment to continue efforts to
\nsecure a positive decision in this respect this year. <\/p>\n

\nprime minister Nicolae Ciuc\u0103 received Dereck J. Hogan, the Principal Deputy
\nAssistant Secretary in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs at the US
\nDepartment of State, who paid a visit to Bucharest to attend the US-Romanian
\nStrategic Dialogue. Talks focused on political, economic and military
\ncooperation between Romania and the USA. Talks also looked at the cooperation
\nbetween the two states in the fields of energy, IT&C and agriculture. Prime
\nminister Ciuc\u0103 expressed an interest in attracting a large number of US
\nbusinesses with a view to developing more projects in Romania. Another major
\ntopic on the agenda was regional security in the context of the Russian
\nmilitary aggression in Ukraine. The Romanian prime minister highlighted the
\nmulti-dimensional support which Romania has provided to Ukraine as well as the
\nsupport given to the Republic of Moldova. Bucharest’s significant contribution
\nwas hailed by the US administration. The two officials also discussed the security
\nsituation in the Black Sea region. During the talks, the US side offered
\ntechnical support for Romania’s inclusion into the Visa Waiver programme.<\/p>\n

\nunions in the education sector on Tuesday began a new series of protests
\ndemanding higher pay and bonuses. The south-eastern city of Constan\u0163a was the
\nfirst city to see such protests. Trade unions are calling on the government to
\nfind solutions to increase the incomes of auxiliary teaching staff and provide
\novertime pay for auxiliary teaching and non-teaching staff. Protesters also
\ndemanded the enforcement of regulations on the provision of bonuses for working
\nconditions, saying the employees in the education sector are the only category
\nof public sector employees not to receive such bonuses. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\nRomanian prime minister Nicolae Ciuc\u0103 on Tuesday met the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin
\nWelby. Talks focused on the situation generated by Russia’s invasion of
\nUkraine, the support for refugees and the combating of human trafficking. The
\nPrime minister Ciuc\u0103 presented Romania’s contribution to the efforts of the
\ninternational community to provide assistance to the victims of war and the
\nUkrainian people and authorities. The archbishop congratulated Romania for its
\nvision and coordination of the humanitarian support for Ukrainian refugees.
\nEarlier, the head of the Romanian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Daniel had talks
\nwith the archbishop about migration, thanking him for the support for the
\nRomanian Orthodox congregation in the UK, who rent 38 places of worship and church buildings
