\nEuropean Commission coordinator for combating anti-Semitism and fostering
\nJewish life Katharina von Schnurbein said Romania was the first EU member state
\nto draw up a national strategy to prevent and combat anti-Semitism, xenophobia,
\nradicalisation and hate speech for the 2021-2023
\nperiod. She made these statements in Bucharest on Tuesday in the opening of the
\nfourth meeting of the Working Group for the implementation of the European
\nUnion strategy on combating anti-Semitism and fostering Jewish life. The
\nthree-day-long event brings together 80 Romanian and European officials, as
\nwell as representatives of Jewish communities and international organisations
\nfrom EU member states, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova. Two years ago, the
\nEuropean Union adopted its first strategy on fighting anti-Semitism and
\nfostering Jewish life for the 2021-2023 period.<\/p>\n

\nalso emphasised that Romania firmly supports Moldova’s European path. He met
\nhis Moldovan counterpart Anatolie Nosat\u00eei on Tuesday. The latter said the
\ndevelopment of the defence capacity and the transformation of the Moldovan army
\ninto a modern institution adjusted to national standards and capable to ensure
\nthe security of its citizens are priorities for his government and that the
\nRomanian government is providing considerable support in this respect. He also
\nunderlined Romania’s assistance in the promotion international projects to
\nconsolidate the defence capacity, such as NATO’s enhanced assistance package
\nand the European Peace Facility. <\/p>\n

\nfarmers affected by the imports of cheap grains from Ukraine, the agriculture
\nminister Petre Daea said on Tuesday. The new support package must be published
\nin the official journal of the European Union before internal procedures are
\nimplemented to channel the money to farmers. Applications for the first tranche
\nof aid for wheat farmers are to be recorded by 11th May, with payments
\nto be made from the first 10 million euros granted by the European Union to
\ncompensate for the economic losses caused by the cereal imports from Ukraine. <\/p>\n

\nRomania. As of May 2, companies and individuals who install such alternative
\ngreen energy systems can register for this program. Afterwards, the
\nprocedures will begin for the people who want to benefit from the 20 thousand
\nlei (4 thousand euros) from the State budget for the installation of
\nphotovoltaic panels. The demand for solar panels has rocketed in Romania,
\nespecially after the increase in electricity and natural gas prices.<\/p>\n

\nminister and mayor of the southern town of Slatina, Darius V\u00e2lcov on Tuesday
\nreceived a final sentence of 6 years in prison for trafficking in influence and
\nmoney laundering. Prosecutors found over 100 works of art purchased by V\u00e2lcov,
\nsome of which were hidden in the walls of buildings he owns. He has been
\nmissing recent court hearings, having left for Italy a few months ago. <\/p>\n

\nAthenaeum, which is the home of the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra, is
\nthis year taking part in the Long Night of Museums on 13th of May,
\nstaying open for visitors from 10 pm until 1 am, with a short performance by
\nthe Philharmonics’ quartet also on offer. This year’s edition of the Long Night
\nof Museums, which is held jointly with the Republic of Moldova, will bring
\ntogether over 300 different exhibitions, artistic experiments, projections,
\nperformances, workshops, concerts and interactive tours. Museums, art
\ngalleries, cultural centres, artists’ studios, theatres and other cultural
