INTEREST The National Bank of Romania has decided to keep the monetary policy interest rate at 6.50% per year to ensure medium-term price stability. The institution argues that inflation fell significantly during the first two months of the third quarter, from 10.42% in June to 8.16% in July and 6.17% in August. However, the central bank expects the annual inflation rate to go up by the end of the year, driven primarily by rising prices for fuel, energy, and other raw materials, including agri-food products, as well as by fluctuations in the national currency’s exchange rate. The Central Bank also warns that uncertainties regarding fiscal consolidation measures persist and that the war in the Middle East and the energy crisis entail significant risks for the economy and inflation.<\/span><\/p>\n
