We are on NATO\u2019s Eastern Flank, where the waters of the Danube Delta and the Razelm-Sinoe lagoon area serve as the setting for military maneuvers of significant strategic importance. Over 200 Romanian, Spanish, and American military have recently taken part in the multinational exercise “Heracleea 26” coordinated by the “Mihail Kog\u0103lniceanu” River Flotilla. Their mission: protecting critical infrastructure, monitoring waterways, and neutralizing any potential threats.<\/p>\n

Speaking directly from the training ground, the Spanish troops deployed in Romania share what this experience means to them. “It is very important for us, as it provides an opportunity to work alongside Romanian Marines, to integrate our procedures, and build strong cohesion, so as to be prepared to operate together in any future scenario. Being close to the Ukrainian border is significant; we are learning about the local terrain and the procedures of the Romanian Armed Forces. The training environment is similar to what we are used to back home, after all, we Marines form a small, global community and operate in much the same way. Collaborating with fellow Marines comes naturally. This is an excellent opportunity to further enhance our interoperability,” stated Major Aldo Alonso Garcia, commander of the Spanish detachment.<\/p>\n

The primary objective of these exercises is perfect interoperability among allies, especially in a region located in the immediate vicinity of the war in Ukraine. The training of personnel from the 307th<\/sup> Marine Regiment “Heracleea” in Babadag involved the use of amphibious armored personnel carriers, high-speed craft, and state-of-the-art autonomous unmanned systems. Beyond the advanced technology, what truly stands out is the dedication of every service member on the ground. Soldier Andres Navarro shares: “We are here to conduct exercises alongside the Romanian troops. This exercise is very important to us because the Marine Corps is unique, and we remain prepared for any type of situation. We have the capability to operate both on water and on land. We arrived four months ago. We have only two more months to go, and I can say it has been a good experience. I\u2019ve been away from home for a long time, and I look forward to seeing my family and friends. Romania is a beautiful country; I\u2019ve visited many places. I enjoy trying new dishes, and I must say, the food here is truly excellent.”<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Besides the Romanian and American troops, the Spanish allies have also cooperated over the last few months with partners from Belgium, Luxembourg, and France. According to soldier Alejandro Hervas, the process of adapting to the specific conditions in Romania, following a four-month deployment at training grounds across the country, has been a success: “Today, we conducted a tactical exercise alongside the Romanian troops, focusing on occupying offensive positions and using various types of ammunition; the goal was to prepare and build cohesion with our Romanian partners. We have also carried out exercises with military personnel from countries such as Belgium, Luxembourg, and France. There is a war on the border, we are well aware of that, but we are training here, preparing in the same way we do in other countries, and carrying out the same types of activities. Over these four months, we have been at training grounds including Cincu, Babadag, and C\u00e2r\u021bi\u0219oara. The people are very welcoming; we\u2019ve had great interactions with them. We visited Bra\u0219ov, Sibiu, and Sighi\u0219oara, we loved all these places, and the people, both military personnel and civilians, are fantastic. It is a very valuable experience for our unit to adapt and cooperate with troops from Romania, France, and Belgium.
