{"id":1076104,"date":"2026-10-27T13:55:00","date_gmt":"2026-10-27T11:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rri.ro\/?p=1076104"},"modified":"2026-10-27T14:20:15","modified_gmt":"2026-10-27T12:20:15","slug":"october-27-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rri.ro\/en\/news-and-current-affairs\/newsflash\/october-27-2026-id1076104.html","title":{"rendered":"October 27, 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>SABOTAGE<\/strong> Romanian President Nicusor Dan is \u2018firmly condemning any implication of the Russian Federation in sabotage acts on the Romanian territory\u2019 adding that such actions are \u2018unacceptable and represent a severe infringement upon the country\u2019s sovereignty and security.\u2019 The statement comes after the anti-terrorism department (DIICOT) and the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) have said that a sabotage network coordinated from Russia was behind the blaze at an industrial platform, a branch of national company Romarm, in Brasov, central Romania, in September. Three foreign nationals \u2013 two Byelorussians and a Ukrainian residing in EU countries \u2013 are being investigated by the DIICOT on attempted acts of diversion, and the Appeal Court in Bucharest has issued mandates in their absence. Thanks to international cooperation, two of them have been preventively apprehended in Germany while masterminding similar acts, the DIICOT says in a communiqu\u00e9. The third mastermind has been located in Poland. The network\u2019s missions, which were not limited to Romania, were targeting arms-producing facilities and other objectives of military and industrial interest. President Nicusor Dan has brought into attention the latest drone incidents in the national maritime space of the Black Sea. \u201cThe attempted actions of influencing a country\u2019s election process, disinformation campaigns, information warfare, cyber attacks and sabotage activities are all parts of the hybrid war Russia is waging on Europe,\u201d President Dan went on to say.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>MEETING<\/strong> According to Romania\u2019s new Prime Minister, Luca Niculescu his government has financial discipline and the smart use of public money as well as kickstarting the economy and investment attraction as its key priorities. On Monday Niculescu met representatives of the business environment campaigning for the reduction of the fiscal burden for the entrepreneurs, without more tax rises and duties.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>VISIT<\/strong> Luca Niculescu is in Chisinau, the Republic of Moldova, this being the first visit he pays in his capacity as a Prime Minister of Romania. The Romanian official is expected to be holding talks with his Moldovan counterpart, Vasile Tofan, with Parliament President, Igor Grosu, and be received by the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu. Also high on the agenda are talks over the economic partnership between the two countries with emphasis on energy interconnection. The two Prime Ministers are expected to pay a visit to the Chishinau power plant on the Vulcanesti-Chisinau line, which is going to connect the Republic of Moldova\u2019s power grid to that of Romania\u2019s and implicitly to the European market. Another issue will be Romania\u2019s support for the European integration of the neighboring country. The Romanian delegation is also expected to meet representatives of the Romanian companies, which are running investment projects in the Republic of Moldova.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>VOTE<\/strong> Israelis have started casting their ballots in the first Parliamentary election since the Hamas attacks in October 2023. The election is unfolding amid international criticism against the war in Gaza as well as the enlargement of settlements in the West Bank under the most rightist government in the country\u2019s history. According to the latest polls, Netnayahu\u2019s right wing and far-right coalition and the main opposition bloc headed by the centrist former head of the army, Gadi Eisenkot, are neck and neck. As no side seems to get the majority of the 120 Knesset seats, long post-election negotiations are expected to follow. Experts believe that at stake is the leading position of Netanyahu, who has been considered a great political survivor after 19 years as head of government. Benjamin Netanyahu has based his campaign on the threats against Israel, presenting himself as the only one able to ensure the country\u2019s security including through his tight relationship with Donald Trump.
