\non Thursday won gold in the 100-m backstroke event at the European Swimming
\nChampionships held in Budapest. This is Romania’s first medal in a European
\nevent after a break of 17 years. The last medal scooped by Romania was Camelia
\nPotec’s gold in 2004 in Madrid in the 200-m freestyle event. Glin\u0163\u0103 has secured
\nqualification to the Tokyo Olympics and will perform in the 100-m backstroke
\nevent. Robert Glin\u0163\u0103 also won silver in the 50-meter backstroke race. <\/p>\n

Romania won six medals, one gold, one silver and four bronze on Sunday
\nat the World Rowing Championships hosted by Lucerne, Switzerland. The women’s
\ndouble-sculls crew made up Nicoleta-Ancu\u0163a Bodnar and Simona Geanina Radi\u015f won gold.
\nThe silver went to Ionela-Livia Cozmiuc and Gianina-Elena Beleag\u0103 in the lightweight
\nwomen’s double-sculls event. The bronze medals were won by the women’s pair,
\nthe men’s pair, the women’s quadruple sculls and the men’s quadruple sculls
\ncrews. Romania ranked 7th in the medal standings. All the crews that
\nsecured a medal have qualified to the Tokyo Olympics. <\/p>\n

The Romanian women’s handball club CSM Bucharest has won the Romanian
\ndomestic championship. With Cristina Neagu unavailable due to a knee injury,
\nCSM on Sunday defeated M\u0103gura Cisn\u0103die narrowly 26-25. CSM is first in the
\ntables with 76 points, followed by Minaur Baia Mare with 64 points and two
\ngames left to play, and SCM R\u00e2mnicu V\u0103lcea with 60 points and one game left to
\nplay. CSM Bucharest also won the championship in the 2015-2018 period. <\/p>\n

\nUniversitatea Craiova on Saturday evening won the Romanian Cup in football
\nafter defeating Astra Giurgiu 3-2 after extra time. This is the first game with
\nthe physical attendance of fans at 25% stadium capacity since the start of the
\npandemic. The match favorite was Universitatea after Astra unfortunately was
\nrelegated to the second league. Craiova dominated the game and scored the first
\ngoal on minute 14. Valeric\u0103 G\u0103man evened the odds on minute 17 from penalty
\nkick, and lead 2-1 in extra time after Yann Boe-Kane scored a goal on minute 93.
\nDan Nistor made it 2-all on minute 100, while Vladimir Screciu scored the
\nwinning goal on minute 113. Dan Nistor was declared man of the match with one
