At the 2023
\nICF Canoe Spring World Cup held in Szeged, Hungary, Romania won 3 medals.
\nC\u0103t\u0103lin Chiril\u0103 won the canoe single 500m and 1,000m races, and Ilie Sprincean and
\nOleg Nu\u0163\u0103 won the canoe double 1,000m race. In the competition in Szeged, Romania
\nwas represented by 9 athletes, 2 women and 7 men, and came out 3rd
\nin the medal table.<\/p>\n

Romania has
\nleft empty-handed from the World Judo Championships in Doha, Qatar. The
\nRomanian participants performed modestly, with the best result reported for Lucian
\nBor\u015f – Dumitrescu, who reached the eighth-finals of the 66 kg category. The
\nlast medals for Romania in a world judo championship were won in 2015, in
\nAstana, Kazakhstan, by Andreea Chi\u0163u, in the 52 kg category, and by Corina
\nC\u0103prioriu, in the 57 kg. <\/p>\n

CSM Lugoj won
\ntheir first Romanian cup in women’s volleyball. The team from Lugoj Sunday won
\nthe final against CSM T\u00e2rgovi\u015fte, 3-1, in Pite\u015fti. In Saturday’s semis, CSM
\nLugoj beat Volei Alba Blaj, the defending champions and trophy holders, 3-2. The
\nathletes from Lugoj thus conclude a very good season, in which they won the Cup
\nWinners Cup, the Romanian Cup and played the Challenge Cup final. <\/p>\n

This
\nweekend saw matches counting towards the play-off \/ play-out stage of Romania’s
\nfootball SuperLeague, round 8. In the play-off, Rapid Bucharest drew at home against
\nSepsi Sf\u00e2ntu Gheorghe, 0-all. Another tie, 1-all, came on Saturday in the match
\npitting Universitatea Craiova against Farul Constan\u0163a. On Sunday, in the derby
\nof this round, played on the National Arena in Bucharest in front of a crowd of
\nover 40,000, FCSB beat CFR Cluj 1-0. Top of the standings at present are Farul,
\nwith 47 points, followed by FCSB, one point behind.<\/p>\n

In the play-out
\nmatches, on Friday FC Boto\u015fani defeated Voluntari on home turf, 2-0. On Saturday,
\nHermannstadt beat Petrolul Ploie\u015fti 1-0, and Universitatea Cluj outplayed Chindia
\nT\u00e2rgovi\u015fte, 2-0. On Sunday, UTA Arad won 2-0 against Mioveni, and FC U Craiova defeated
\nFC Arge\u015f, 2-1. CS Mioveni is certain to be relegated to a lower league, one
\nround before the end of the play-out stage, while struggling to avoid
\nrelegation are also FC Arge\u015f, with 21 points, and Chindia, with 22. In the last
\nround, this coming Friday, FC Arge\u015f take on Petrolul Ploiesti, and Chindia face
