In the Round of 16, Romania secured
\na 45-31 win against Belgium and outperformed Russia 45-42 in the quarters. Our
\nathletes were stopped in their tracks by Hungary 45-40 and they also lost the

Sambo fighters from Romania,
\nDaniela Poroineanu in the 56 kilogram category, Anda Mihaela Valvoi in the 64
\nand Alina – Petronela Paunescu in the 80+ kilogram on Saturday walked away with
\nbronze medals from the European Games in Minsk. <\/p>\n

In the same competition Romanian boxers,
\nCosmin Petre Girleanu and Maria Claudia Nechita on Sunday qualified for the
\nquarter-finals of their categories. Girleanu, world under-21 champion in 2015,
\nobtained a 3-2 win against Hungarian Attila Bernath in the eighth finals. The
\nRomanian will be up against Armenian Artur Hovhasinian in the quarters. In the
\nwomen’s contest, Claudia Nechita has qualified for the quarter finals of the 51
\nkilogram category after 5-0 win against Veronica Losvik of Norway and will be
\nup against Svetlana Soluianova of Russia in the quarters on Wednesday. <\/p>\n

Romania’s athletics team has
\nqualified for the quarter finals of the same competition. They were part of a
\nqualifying series that also included Russia, France, Italy, Slovenia and
\nEstonia. The best Romanian athletes were Mihai Donisan, who came first in the
\nhigh jump event and Florentina Iusco who came second in the long jump event.
\nThe quarter finals are due on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Monica Niculescu has won the ITF
\nlawn tournament in Ilkley, Great Britain. On Sunday, the Romanian defeated
\nTimea Babos of Hungary in the finals 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. <\/p>\n
