The Romanian athlete Mircea Croitoru on Sunday won the gold medal in
\nthe +100 kg judo category at the Warsaw European Open. He defeated
\nSlovakia’s Marius Fizel in the final. The competition brought
\ntogether 429 athletes from 43 different countries, including 8 from
\nRomania, six in the men’s and two in the women’s events.<\/p>\n

\nreached the semifinals of the Erste Liga regional competition. In the
\nquarterfinals, Gheorgheni defeated the Hungarian side Duna\u00fajv\u00e1ros
\n4-nil, while Bra\u015fov defeated Sport Club Miercurea Ciuc 4-1. The
\nsystem used was the best out of seven matches. The Hungarian side
\nBudapest J\u00e9gkorong Akad\u00e9mia also advanced to the semifinals, while
\nthe fourth semifinalist will be the winner between two other

\nRomania’s national basketball side defeated Cyprus 75-50 on Sunday
\nin Pite\u015fti in their last match in Group F of the second round of the 2025 EuroBasket pre-qualifiers. This was Romania’s second group
\nwin, their first also against Cyprus. Their best player was the
\nnaturalised American Patrick Richard, with 15 points and five
\ndecisive passes. In another Group F match, Bulgaria defeated Portugal
\n90-82. Portugal are in the lead with 11 points, followed by Bulgaria,
\nalso with 11 points, Romania, with 8 points, and Cyprus, with 6
\npoints. Romania will next be playing in the third round of the
\npre-qualifiers.
