Romanian hammer thrower Bianca
\nGhelber on Wednesday qualified for the finals of the hammer throw event of the
\nWorld Athletics Championships in Budapest with a throw of 73 meters and 67 centimeters,
\nthe contest’s fifth performance. We recall that Bianca is the European champion
\nof the event. Also on Wednesday in the 800 meter race, Claudia Bobocea went 26th
\nand failed to qualify for the competition’s semifinals although she managed to set
\na personal record of two minutes and 56 hundredths. <\/p>\n

Romania’s representatives in the
\ntriple jump events, Andreea Talos and Diana Ion have also failed to qualify for
\nthe competition’s next stage. In Budapest on Sunday, Alina Rotaru-Kottman won

In the first day of the
\nKayak-Canoe Championships in Duisburg, Germany, Catalin Chirila qualified for
\nthe semifinals of the single canoe races of 500 and 1000 meters. In both
\nevents, the Romanian registered the best results of the qualifiers as he is the
\nen titre champion in the 1000 meters Olympic race. If he ends up on one of the
\nfirst five positions, he will qualify for the Olympic Games next year. We
\nrecall that Chirila is world and European vice champion in the five hundred
\nmeter race.<\/p>\n

Also in Duisburg, in the 1000
\nmeters double canoe event, Ilie Sprincean and Oleg Nuta came second in the
\nthird tier and qualified for the semifinals. In the women’s single event Tania
\nV\u00eerijac has assured a place in the semifinals of the 1000 meter race after
\nranking seventh in the second tier. In the single kayak race of 1000 meter,
\nCarmen Morawietz has qualified for the semis after coming seventh in the qualifiers.
