Romania’s national
\nrugby squad ended the tournament in South America with two wins. In Valparaiso on
\nJune 9, Romania trounced Chile, 27-11. In the second game, Romania had a rather
\nmore difficult task, as in Jundial, Romania outclassed Brazil by the narrowest of
\nmargins, 22-21. For Romania, Christian Chirica, Ovidiu Cojocaru and Florin Vlaicu
\nscored three tries each, while it was also Vlaicu who successfully converted
\nthree tries and a penalty kick. <\/p>\n

Romania’s men’s handball
\nteam was placed at the bottom of the table in Group 6, counting towards the
\nEURO 2020 preliminaries. In Nantes on Sunday night, in the last fixture of the
\nqualifiers, Romania sustained a 25-34 defeat by defending champions France. In
\nGroup 6, France is at the top of the table, with 10 points, followed by
\nPortugal, with 9 and Lithuania, with 3 points. Romania are 4th-placed
\nin the group, with 2 points on their record sheet. Booking their ticket for the
\nfinal tournament were the first two teams in each preliminary group and the
\nfour best third-placed teams. <\/p>\n

The European Fencing
\nChampionships are underway in Germany’s Dusseldorf. In the women’s saber event
\non Monday, Bianca Pascu went past the group stage with three wins, while in the
\nfirst round of the main draw of 64, Pascu defeated Russia’s Yana Egorian,
\n15-12. Then Bianca Pascu defeated Italian challenger Martina Criscio, also
\n15-12. In the round of 16, Bianca Pascu sustained a 14-15 defeat by Manon
\nBrunet of France. According to the Romanian Fencing Federation, Banca Pascu was
\n15th-place d in the final rankings. Another Romanian fencer, Andreea
\nLupu, went past the group stage, but in the main draw of 64 Lupu was
\neliminated in the very first game by Spain’s Araceli Navaro, 6-15. Andreea Lupu
\nwas 49th-placed according to the final rankings. With one win each
\nin the group stage, Maria Matei came in 55th, while Loredana Dima
\nwas 57th-placed, according to the final rankings. Two Romanians
\nparticipated in the men’s foil event. In the group stage, Benjamin Bodo
\nsucceeded only one with and was 65th-placed according to the final
\nrankings, while Silviu Rosu had a no-win record sheet in the group stage and
\nwas 76th-placed according to the final rankings. <\/p>\n
