This happened in 1924 in Paris, at the seventh edition of the Games. Romania was represented in four sports: football, tennis, shooting and rugby. Without any support from the authorities, most athletes travelled to Paris by train, <span lang=\"en-US\">on low-fare tickets, for which they paid themselves <\/span>with the help of <span lang=\"en-US\">the <\/span>clubs they were <span lang=\"en-US\">affiliated to<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">At the Games, the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Romanian<\/span> athletes <span lang=\"en-US\">had a poor performance <\/span>in tennis and shooting. In shooting, <span lang=\"en-US\">Romania\u2019s<\/span> best result was 13th place in the air rifle event. In tennis, <span lang=\"en-US\">Romanian<\/span> players did not make it past the second round, neither in the singles, nor in the doubles <span lang=\"en-US\">competition<\/span>. In football, Romania played a single <span lang=\"en-US\">match<\/span>, losing nil-6 to <span lang=\"en-US\">T<\/span>he Netherlands.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">In rugby, a total of three teams <span lang=\"en-US\">took part in <\/span>the competition: France, the United States and Romania. Romania&#8217;s <span lang=\"en-US\">taking part was instrumental to the competition being held in the first place. Romania played<\/span> the opening match on May 4, 1924, on the Olympic Stadium in Colombes. France <span lang=\"en-US\">won the match <\/span>59-3, scoring 13 tries, of which 4 by Adolphe Jaureguy. Romania scored its only points through Teodor Florian, who converted a penalty kick.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">In their following match, which was<\/span> against the United States, Romania <span lang=\"en-US\">were<\/span> <span lang=\"en-US\">enthusiastically supported <\/span>by the French fans, <span lang=\"en-US\">who <\/span>saw the US as the <span lang=\"en-US\">favourite to win the O<\/span>lympic title. Their support did little to help however, <span lang=\"en-US\">and <\/span>Romania <span lang=\"en-US\">lost<\/span> 39-nil.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">The United States went on to win the final 17-3 against the host team, France.
