The Romanian men’s basketball team U-BT Cluj-Napoca on
\nWednesday won 87-83 against Bursaspor of Turkey at home in a match counting
\ntowards EuroCup Group A. The Romanian champions have thus grabbed their fifth
\nwin in the competition and hold mathematical chances of advancing to the round
\nof 16. The top scorers for U-BT were Jalen Jones of the US with 14 points and 8
\nrebounds, Leonardo Meindl of Brazil with 13 points and 8 rebounds and 4
\nassists, as well as American-born Romanian player Patrick Richard, with 14
\npoints. In the next round, U-BT will take on Joventut Badalona of Spain on

\nWednesday lost 28-26 to the Faeroe Islands away from home in a match counting
\ntowards the 2024 European Championship preliminary Group 4. Romania was behind

\nadvantage at half time – 15-9. In the second half, Romania upped its game, but
\nthe Faeroe Islands eventually won the match. Romania is ranked 2nd
\nin the group standings after Austria, although ahead of Ukraine and the Faeroe
\nIslands. In the next round this Saturday, Romania will play the Faeroe Islands
\nagain, this time in Bucharest. The top
\ntwo teams in each of the eight groups will advance directly to the final
\ntournament, along with the four best third-placed teams in all the groups. The
\nmen’s European Championship will take place over January 10-28, 2024 in
