The 2013 edition of the \u201cGaudeamus — Book of Learning\u201d International Book Fair, organized every year by Radio Romania will be held between November 20 and 24 in Bucharest. Over 400 Romanian and foreign publishers, printing houses, education institutions, cultural centers and institutes, media institutions and book sellers will participate in this year\u2019s edition. Multimedia companies, literary agencies, cultural and educational NGOs, professional associations, bookshops and libraries will also attend the fair.<\/p>\n

According to organizers, this year\u2019s edition revolves around two round numbers: 85, because it\u2019s been 85 years since the first Radio Romania broadcast and 20, which is the number of Gaudeamus editions so far. Head of Radio Romania\u2019s Media Cultural Center Oltea Serban-Parau gives us details about this year\u2019s guest of honor:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Nordic countries are guest of honour at this year\u2019s edition, a group made up of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. We also have special guests. It is an honor to have them here. There will also be 36 events hosted by the guest of honor. Nine writers from these countries will attend Gaudeamus this year, which is an international impact we didn\u2019t have at the beginning. Another significant change is related to the number of visitors attending the fair. Last year\u2019s figure was 117,000 ,which is exceptional for a cultural event<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n
In his turn, the head of the fair, Vladimir Epstein, has pointed out that the guests of this year\u2019s edition have \u201ca long tradition in at least two fields: children\u2019s books and detective novels.\u201d<\/p>\n
As many as nine Nordic contemporary writers whose books have been translated into Romanian will present their works and discuss with the public about them. Romanian readership will also have the chance to meet Andrei Makine, one of the greatest contemporary French writers, winner of important literary prizes. Makine came to Bucharest for the launch of the Romanian version of his book \u201cA Loved Woman.\u201d Born in Siberia, Makine has been living in Paris since the late 1980s, being assimilated by his adoptive country after the great success of his novel \u201cDreams of My Russian Summers\u201d.<\/p>\n
This year as well the Gaudeamus International Book Fair is offering visitors a marathon of over 600 cultural events, held in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.<\/p>\n
