\nBra\u0219ov is a city lying at the heart of Romania, only 161 kilometres from
\nBucharest. The town stretching at the foot of Tampa Mountain makes an
\nideal holiday destination for various categories of tourists,
\nirrespective of their age. Known for its Black Church, which is
\nSouth-eastern Europe’s greatest worship edifice in Gothic style,
\nBra\u0219ov also stands out thanks to its narrow streets, with a medieval
\nflavour and for its restaurants and clubs, being an ideal city-break
\ndestination. A plus for Brasov’s status as central Romania’s
\nurban hub, is the opening of its International Airport in 2023, which
\nlinks Brasov to some of Europe’s biggest cities, thus turning
\nBrasov into an even more accessible destination.

\ntoday we target those who have a little bit more time on their hands,
\nsince Bra\u0219ov County has very many things to offer. We wanted to know
\nthe entire area better, so we sat down and spoke to the 1st
\nvice-president of the Rosenau Tourism Association, Mihai Dragomir,
\nwho is also on the steering committee of Romania’s Ecotourism
\nAssociation. Mihai Dragmomir is also the coordinator of the Rasnov
\nFortress’ Film and Histories Festival, as well as the president and
\nthe founding member of the Mioritics Association. Mihai Dragomir is
\nalso the organizer of the events as part of Transylvanian Brunch. <\/p>\n

\nBrasov
\nCounty is a very diverse one, since, on one hand, we have a
\nmountainous area that comes with its own specificity, but there also
\nis an elevated plane area, Brasov county’s hilly area, which
\nalready means another category of leisure and local values. Now were
\nI to very briefly provide an outline of the main tourist destinations
\nin Bra\u0219ov County, apart from the city of Bra\u0219ov, the metropolitan
\narea has a very good connection to the city, and here we include
\nR\u00e2\u0219nov, Codlea, Z\u0103rne\u0219ti and Predeal. Also very close is Vama
\nBuz\u0103ului, a renowned natural and culinary area.

\npopular. Ideal for winter sports lovers, it attracts tourists from

\nmediaeval citadels and Z\u0103rne\u0219ti is mostly popular for hiking,
\nBra\u0219ov is also a place full of tradition, says Mihai Dragomir:<\/p>\n

\nhighlights are the F\u0103g\u0103ra\u0219
\nCountry, a unique and very well-preserved ethnographic area, and the
\nTransylvanian hills, a destination that covers three different
\ncounties, including the Bra\u0219ov area. The village of Viscri is also
\nvery well known, but there are other equally beautiful villages. Also
\nworth visiting is the Rupea-Cohalm area, together with the Per\u0219ani
\nMountains area. The fortifications found in Bra\u0219ov county are among
\nthe most diverse, from the well-known fortified churches in F\u0103g\u0103ra\u0219,
\nRupea, Feldioara and R\u00e2\u0219nov, to Bran Castle. Each is different,
\nhas it own story and offers visitors a different experience.<\/p>\n

\nfood is one of the most exciting things Bra\u0219ov has to offer. Mihai
\nDragomir, from Rosenau Turism Association, says this is also a way
\nof becoming better acquainted with the people and the story of the

\narea known as Vama Buz\u0103ului is a very well-preserved natural area
\nand a place where the local cuisine has developed a lot of in recent
\nyears. Besides, the area is home to the Bison Reserve. Vama Buz\u0103ului
\nis full of gastronomical attractions, to be found both in restaurants
\nand in the food locals make at home. F\u0103g\u0103ra\u0219 Country is an
\nimportant destination, for the F\u0103g\u0103ra\u0219 Mountains are spectacular,
\nlocated relatively close and are quite easily accessible in their
\nlower regions at this time of the year, unlike their higher regions.
\nThe villages at the foot of the mountains have preserved many
\nauthentic Romanian traditions.<\/p>\n

\nRoth, the manager of the Valea Zimbrilor bison reserve says
\ntravellers to Bra\u0219ov must also pay a visit to Vama Buz\u0103ului, which

\nare not far from the city of Bra\u0219ov, only about 40 km. Vama Buz\u0103ului
\nis a tourist resort of local interest, a special area, with clean air
\nand lots of nature, and which is also home to the Valea Zimbrilor
\nbison reserve. Apart from bison, visitors can also see here reindeer,
\nmouflon and peacocks. The place is also ideal for families with
\nchildren and it has a generous playground. The Url\u0103toarea waterfall,
\nat the foot of Mount Ciuca\u0219, is also worth a visit. Vama Buz\u0103ului
\nis also an excellent place for trying out the local cuisine.<\/p>\n

\nIt’s
\na culinary event that ‘travels’ from village to village. It’s
\nusually held in a beautiful farmstead with an orchard or large
\ngarden, and which also has an old traditional oven where lots of
\ntasty traditional dishes are prepared. We’re always trying to find
\nnew hosts who preserve old culinary traditions and who have access to
\norganic products, whether from their own gardens or farms or those of
\ntheir neighbours. The structure of the event is relatively simple.
\nPeople come together and spend three, four or five hours in a new
\nplace each time. They will discover a village, a story, the people.
\nSome kind of activity is also usually included, such a walk up the
\nhill, visiting the fortified church in the village or taking part in
\nvarious workshops. It all depends on what the respective village has
\nto offer. Hearts open, and people become very relaxed. Children are
\nalways welcome at these events, they can play freely in the garden
\nand their parents can relax.<\/p>\n
