Established by
\nParliament in 2015, the Day of Romanians Everywhere is celebrated every year on
\nthe last Sunday in May. The events marking this national holiday are
\nheld both in Romania and abroad, in areas with large Romanian communities. <\/p>\n

On Sunday, the
\nCentral University Library in Bucharest hosted a conference entitled Romanian
\nexcellency abroad. Its guests were successful Romanian researchers, who
\ndiscussed issues of interest for the people who want to return to Romania or
\nwho want to contribute to the country’s development, even though they reside
\nabroad. On Sunday, President Klaus Iohannis asked the Government to draw up a
\nroadmap to truly make Romanian Diaspora a national priority, so that the
\npotential of Romanians abroad should be tapped into. <\/p>\n

In a message to
\nRomanians living outside the country’s borders, Iohannis has urged them to
\nexpress their love for the country by being kinder, more responsible, by
\nworking harder and by helping each other, in order for Romania to become strong
\nand prosperous. The President said: unfortunate historical circumstances have
\nseparated a part of Romanians from their country, so it is our duty to help
\nthem preserve their identity, traditions and culture. We must also support the
\nRomanians who have chosen to live abroad for the time being, so that their
\nrights and liberties are protected. <\/p>\n

Among the events
\ndevoted to the celebration of the Day of Romanians Everywhere is the folk
\ntraditions fair of the Romanian communities around Romanian borders: historical
\nMaramures, in Ukraine; Timoc, in Serbia; Bulgaria; and Bessarabia, in the
\nRepublic of Moldova. The fair was held at the Dimitrie Gusti National Village
\nMuseum. <\/p>\n

The Romanian
\nminister-delegate for the Romanians Everywhere, Dan Stoenescu, has announced
\nthe opening of the first information centre for Romanians in Izmail, in the
\nOdessa region. In an interview with Radio Romania, Stoenescu has said that the
\ncentre will support the implementation of a number of projects and programmes
\naimed to support the preservation of the Romanian culture and language.
\nAccording to Minister Stoenescu, there are 3.5 million Romanians living abroad,
\nso it’s natural for the Romanian state to support them and make sure their
\nrights are defended. <\/p>\n
