Now in its 37th
\nyear, the Romanian Tourism Fair is an opportunity for travel agencies to
\npresent their most interesting packages and to promote tourist attractions from
\nRomania and abroad, as well as travel accessories and equipment. We’ll first
\nstop in the southwest of Romania. Diana Nodit, the president of the
\nnon-governmental Pro-Mehedinti Association will next look at some of this
\narea’s main attractions: <\/p>\n

Wherever you go in
\nMehedinti county you will discover wonderful places. Some of them include the
\nDanube Gorges, in the southwest of the county, the Danube Cauldrons, and the
\nfamous effigy of King Decebalus carved in stone, which is the tallest in
\nRomania and also extremely beautiful. Mehedintii also boasts many wonderful
\naccommodation places. In the south of the county you will discover gorgeous
\nnatural areas where pelicans are nesting. It is an extraordinary region. In the
\nnorth, there is a breathtaking limestone area where you will discover caves and
\nthe natural bridge in Ponoarele, which is the only natural bridge on which
\ntraffic is possible. The area is very scenic and boasts a diversity of
\ntraditional crafts.<\/p>\n

Next we’ll go to one
\nof the best-preserved historical sites in Romania: Fagaras Fortress. Horia
\nPirau, a museum curator with the Valer Literat Museum of Fagaras has more: <\/p>\n

Fagaras Fortress is
\none of the few fortresses in Romania never to have been conquered. It was
\nbesieged 26 times but it never opened its gates except to welcome the Romanian
\nruler Michael the Brave in 1600, when, following a defeat in Miraslau, he took
\nrefuge here with part of the remaining troops and his wife, Lady Stanca. The
\nfortress’ architectural style is that of the Italian Renaissance. Its plan is a
\nlittle different from that of other Transylvanian fortresses, which were built
\nin the Vauban style, while Fagaras Fortress has the shape of an irregular
\nquadrilateral.<\/p>\n

Bistrita Nasaud is
\nrepresented for the first time at the Romanian Tourism Fair. Travel packages
\nfor this region are mainly based on the legend of Dracula. Here is Claudia
\nAnton, the head of the Association for Tourism Promotion in Bistrita Nasaud. <\/p>\n

\n

Tourists have
\nstarted seeking us out, and this is why we came to the Romanian Tourism Fair
\nthis year, in order to allow people to get to know us better, to make friends
\nand tell them about a new tourist destination. Our slogan is Discover Bistrita
\nNasaud. If people go to Maramures in search of traditions and to Bukovina for
\nthe monasteries, in our county they can find both. We have ecological and rural
\ntourism, ecumenical, cultural and historical tourism. We also have the true
\nstory of Count Dracula. In Bram Stoker’s novel, the action takes place in
\nBistrita Nasaud, in Tihuta Pass. We came at this edition of the Tourism Fair
\nwith passports, which we hand to visitors travelling to Transylvania. Bistrita
\nNasaud is a transit region between Moldavia and Transylvania, as well as between
\nMaramures and Transylvania. The people arriving in our county receive a
\npassport with warnings and recommendations for their trip into Count Dracula’s
\ncountry.<\/p>\n

In the west of
\nRomania there is a county that has it all: beautiful scenery, history, mountains,
\nhistorical vestiges and mountain resorts. Here is Radu Barb, the director of
\nthe Hunedoara Agency for Social and Economic Development:<\/p>\n

We have offers for
\nCorvin Castle, for Deva Citadel, for Geoagiu spa, and many other attractions in
\nthe county. We also have an offer from makers of traditional and organic
\nproducts in Hunedoara county. In the Hateg area we have plenty of B&Bs, as
\nwell as in the areas of Valea Muresului and Brad, where accommodation is also
\nplentiful. Let us not forget Prislop Monastery either. We have the monastery in
\nCrisan, and several monasteries in Baita. You also should not miss the stone
\nchurches in Hateg Country. The offer is diverse for anyone who wishes to spend
\nEaster in this area.<\/p>\n

\nthe west of Romania, Diana Antonescu, the head of marketing with Felix Spa
\nTourism, told us about their attractive packages: <\/p>\n

We have plenty of
\nattractive offers. We have packages for leisure and for spa treatment. We also
\nhave special packages for Easter, for Pentecost, and for May 1st.
\nThe Easter package is for three nights per person, providing a double room with
\nbreakfast included, spa therapy, Easter lunch and access to the pool for 3 and
\n4 star hotels, starting at 329 lei per person at a two-star hotel. The price
\nfor the package at a four-star hotel is 558 lei per person. Also very
\ninteresting is the Felix Spa and Relaxation package. This is a package of at
\nleast five days accommodation, breakfast included, a medical test by the hotel
\nphysician, two spa procedures a day per person, as well as free access to the
\nhotel pools and sauna, for three and four-star hotels. The fee for a five-day
\nstay starts at 480 lei, in a two-star hotel, and can go up to 930 lei for a
\nfour-star hotel. These fees are valid between January 4th and July
\n15th.<\/p>\n
