Visit<\/strong> \u2013 Romania\u2019s President, Nicu\u015for Dan, is paying an official visit to the neighboring Republic of Moldova (ex-Soviet country with a majority Romanian-speaking population) on \u200b\u200bTuesday, where he will meet with the leaders of the pro-Western administration in Chi\u015fin\u0103u: President Maia Sandu, the Speaker of Parliament, Igor Grosu, and the PM Dorin Recean. The visit’s agenda also includes a meeting with the Olympic students from the Republic of Moldova. Also on Tuesday, before the visit to Chi\u015fin\u0103u, Nicu\u015for Dan will go together with King Felipe of Spain to the Joint Training Center in Cincu, Bra\u015fov County (center), where Spanish soldiers are also deployed, participating in NATO missions. On Wednesday, Dan will arrive in Ukraine, for the summit in Odessa, after recently reconfirming Romania’s support for the neighboring country, invaded by the Russian troops. At the end of the month, the Romanian president will participate in the NATO summit in The Hague and the European Council in Brussels.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Exercise<\/strong> – Approximately 5,000 soldiers from Italy, the Republic of Moldova, Romania and the United States are participating, until June 24, in the multinational exercise Saber Guardian 25 (SG25), led by the United States Army in Europe (USAREUR) – a statement from the Romanian Defense Ministry informed on Monday. According to the cited source, the activities are taking place in training areas in Romania, including Frec\u0103\u0163ei and Babadag (Tulcea County, southeast, on the border with Ukraine invaded by the Russian army), Suraia (Vrancea, east) and Cincu (Bra\u015fov, center).\u2019The main goal of SG25 is to strengthen cohesion, unity and solidarity between allied and partner states, by demonstrating the capacity to react quickly and concentrate forces at any point in Europe, in a short time,\u2019 the National Defense Ministry states.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Baccalaureate<\/strong> – The Baccalaureate exam begins in Romania on Tuesday, with written tests that will take place until June 16, in almost 450 examination centers. According to data from the Education Ministry, over 100,000 candidates are expected to participate. The first is the written test in Romanian language and literature, the mandatory profile test is scheduled for Wednesday, and the optional test on Friday, while the mother tongue and literature test takes place on June 16th<\/sup>. The results will be announced on June 20, appeals can be submitted between June 23 and 24, and the final results will be communicated on June 30.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Football<\/strong> \u2013 Romania\u2019s national football team plays, on Tuesday, in Bucharest, with Cyprus\u2019 national team, a new match from Group H of the 2026 World Cup preliminaries. In the first three matches, the Romanians were defeated, at home, by Bosnia and, away from home by Austria, and won in San Marino. The winners of the 12 preliminary groups will qualify directly for the 2026 World Cup. For the other four places available for the European zone, the 12 teams ranked second in the groups and the best ranked group winners from the 2024-25 Nations League, which did not qualify through the preliminaries, will compete. Romania last participated in a World Cup final tournament in 1998, in France.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Tennis<\/strong> \u2013 The Romanian tennis player Anca Todoni won the WTA 125 tournament in Bari (Italy), with total prize money worth 100,000 Euros, after defeating Hungarian Anna Bondar in the final, 6-7 (4\/7), 6-4, 6-4. Todoni (20 years old, 88 WTA), the fourth seeded in the tournament, won after almost three hours of play (2 h 55 min). Todoni won the title in Bari for the second year in a row, this being the third WTA 125 trophy of her career, after she won one last year, in Santa Cruz (Bolivia).<\/p>\n

Debt<\/strong> – Romania’s government debt increased by almost 27 billion lei in February, reaching approximately 991 billion, compared to 964 billion in January – data recently published by the Finance Ministry shows. As a share of the Gross Domestic Product, the debt increased to 56.3%, from 54.8% in January. The debt in the national currency amounts to 470 billion lei, the debt in Euros – to over 413 billion, and the debt in US dollars – to almost 104 billion, the equivalent in lei (as 1 euro amounts to about 5 lei – editor’s note).
