Footballers part of Romania\u2019s Under-21 selection have walked away from the European Championship in Slovakia with no point. The side coached by Daniel Pancu has lost all the matches they played in Group A in spite of the good chances they had and the good show they put up. In the first match, when they conceded a 1-0 defeat against Italy, they wasted a penalty shot, missed by the team\u2019s best player, Louis Munteanu. In the second match they lost to Spain 2-1, they had a one-nil advance for 80 minutes. They managed a good show against Slovakia, but a better motivated host representative eventually won the match.<\/p>\n
The football sides to represent Romania in the European competitions have learnt their opponents. In the preliminaries of the Champions League, FCSB will be taking on Inter Club d’Escaldes, of Andorra. And if FCSB pass the Andorran side, they will be up against the winner of the match between the Welsh side The New Saints and the north Macedonian side, Shkendija. In the preliminaries of Europa League, CFR Cluj will be up against the Hungarian side Paksi.<\/p>\n
If they qualify, CFR will be playing Swiss side Lugano in the competition\u2019s next round. In the Conference League, both the Romanian sides will be playing directly in the second preliminary round. Universitatea Craiova will be up against FK Sarajevo, of Bosnia and Herzegovina, while Universitatea Cluj will be playing Armenian side FC Ararat.<\/p>\n
Romanian fencer, Vlad Covaliu, got the best result of the delegation that represented Romania at the European Fencing Championship in Genova, Italy. He came 5th in the individual sabre event after he had been defeated by the Hungarian triple Olympic champion Aron Szilagyi. Vlad Covaliu is son of Romanian fencing legend Mihai Covaliu, Olympic champion in Sydney, 2000, and the incumbent president of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee. This year in April Vlad managed to win the silver medal in the World Junior Championship held in Wuxi, China.<\/p>\n
