At the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, the Romanian athlete Amalia Lic\u0103 won the silver medal in the clubs final on Sunday. The gold went to Darja Varfolomeev (Germany), and the bronze to Bulgaria\u2019s Stiliana Nikolova. Romania had won only one other medal at the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships: a bronze in the rope event in 1992, in Brussels, thanks to Irina Deleanu, the current president of the Romanian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation.<\/p>\n

Romania finished the World Junior Swimming Championships in Otopeni, near Bucharest, with two medals. Daria Sili\u015fteanu won the silver in the 100-m backstroke, and Robert Badea won the bronze in the 400-m medley. A total of 930 athletes from 124 countries took part in the competition. The tennis player Sorana C\u00eerstea won her third WTA tournament on Sunday. In Cleveland, USA, a WTA 250 competition, she defeated Ann Li (US), 6-2, 6-4 in the final.
