At the World Rowing Championships, presently underway in Shanghai, China, athletes from Romania reaped their first medals on Thursday. The Romanian women\u2019s double scull, made up of Simona Radis and Magdalena Rusu, won gold in a race they led all the time. The two European Champions from Romania crossed the finish line four seconds ahead the runner-up France. \u00a0The United States came third in the race.<\/p>\n
In the men\u2019s double scull event, won by New Zealand, the Romanian crew made up of Florin Arteni and Florin Lehaci came second after a great race against the Swiss crew who came third.<\/p>\n
The Romanian women\u2019s four made up of Emanuela Ciot\u0103u, Alexandra Ungureanu, Andrada Moro\u0219anu and Ioana M\u0103d\u0103lina Cornea, one of the youngest in the contest, came fourth in the race, after the Netherlands, Great Britain and Germany.<\/p>\n
Also on Thursday, the Romanian men\u2019s double scull qualified for the finals. Andrei Cornea and Marian Enache won the race in 6 minutes, 31 seconds and 8 hundredths, the best time of the semifinals. The finals takes place on Friday and the Romanian women\u2019s eight has also qualified for this competition after obtaining the best time in the heat. The fight for medals will be on Saturday.<\/p>\n
No good news from handball though. The Romanian male side Dinamo Bucharest on Wednesday registered the third consecutive defeat in the Champions League; they lost 27-30 to Hungarian side Veszprem on their own turf. On October 9, Dinamo will be playing Fuchse Berlin.<\/p>\n
