\nmeeting of the General Assembly of the United Nations Organisation in
\nNew York, president Klaus Iohannis said in a video message that
\nRomania commits to update its education system and protect its
\ncitizens from the challenges of the economic environment and new
\nsocial realities. At his initiative, Romania co-chaired the action
\ntrack Teachers, teaching and the teaching profession as part of
\nthe Transforming Education Summit held in New York.

\nAs
\nthe impact of the Covid-19 pandemic slowly recedes, giving way to new
\nand difficult global challenges, we need to decide upon policies that
\nare required to heal the world. Our work today should pave the way
\nfor better global governance.<\/p>\n

\nkey dimension in this endeavour is building a sustainable future,
\nsaid Iohannis. In his opinion, this all depends on quality education:<\/p>\n

\nthe framework of the current summit, Romania has highlighted the
\ntopic of teaching and the teaching career. Teachers are the heart of
\neducation. As part of recent reforms, Romania has committed itself to
\noffering adequate initial and continuous training, motivating
\nsalaries and an enhanced professional status for teachers within our
\nsociety. We also strive to offer teachers greater autonomy in
\norganising school activities. Teacher participation in
\ndecision-making in key to their involvement in the transformation of
\nour educational systems.<\/p>\n

\nadded that Romania is currently implementing a comprehensive
\nregulatory overhaul based on a broad consultation process called
\nEducated Romania. Over 10,000 citizens were actively involved in this
\nprocess, making it the most inclusive policy design process,
\nfostering the vision for Romanian education towards 2030. Moreover,
\nin the last year, Romania initiated a reflection on education
\nregarding climate change and sustainable development, which
\ntranslated into a concrete strategic vision, mainstreaming the
\nphilosophy of the Sustainable Development Goals in education.

\nThe
\npresident also said teachers continue to play an essential part in
\nmaking sure that children gain the necessary competencies to
\nsafeguard our planet’s resources and beauty. Transforming
\neducation, he said, is about matching the exponential curve of the
\ncurrent global challenges with all the resources that education has
\nin order to foster progress, peace and prosperity. No reform can
\nbe done without investing in our youth, in their teachers, and thus
\nin our future. It is the most beneficial investment we can all
