\nThe European
\nParliament has adopted by a large majority the RePowerEU plan, under
\nwhich the community bloc is granting non-reimbursable funds to member
\nstates to improve their energy sectors. Worth a total of
\n20 billion euros, the RePowerEU plan aims to reduce energy dependency
\non Russia and step up the transition to green energy, while enhancing
\nthe resilience of the European Union’s energy system. <\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Each member
\nstate will have access to these funds provided they implement the
\nobjectives laid down in this new European law. These refer to the
\ndiversification of energy supply sources, improvements to reduce
\nenergy consumption, and stepping up the transition to green, clean
\nand cheap energy. The members of the European Parliament convinced
\nmember states to channel at least 30% of the funds obtained through
\nRePowerEU to national or multinational projects that address existing
\ndisruptions with regard to transport, distribution and storage of
\nenergy, as well as the increase in cross-border flow. Last but not
\nleast, MEPs made sure that the measures support investments aimed at
\ncombating energy poverty in the case of vulnerable households, small
\nand medium sized businesses and micro-enterprises. <\/p>\n

Romania is to
\nbenefit from 1.4 billion euros to fund energy projects, funds
\navailable to spend by 2026. The government in Bucharest must submit
\nfor approval by the European Commission its own investment project by
\n30th April at the latest. The Romanian MEP Siegfried
\nMure\u015fan, a co-rapporteur for the European Parliament on this
\nproject, explainedthat
\nas
\nsoon as the plans of member states are approved, the latter will
\nreceive pre-funding of 20% from the Commission, which in Romania’s
\ncase will amount to some 280 million euros. Another Romanian MEP and
\nalso a co-rapporteur Drago\u0219 P\u00eeslaru said
\nthe plan could help Romania boost its green energy capacity through
\nlarge scale projects such as wind farms. He added that RePowerEU has
\nachieved something revolutionary by ensuring micro-investments to
\nreduce energy bills for vulnerable end users and entrepreneurs. He
\nsaid the funds can also be used to modernise individual homes. In
\nRomania we have five million individual homes in a high degree of
\ndeterioration and with major energy efficiency problems, Drago\u0219
\nP\u00eeslaru said, adding that RePowerEU can achieve something historic
\nif just 10% of these homes can be brought in line with modern
