The Romanian Parliament
\nadopted a declaration to support the neighbouring Ukraine in the context of the
\nfirst anniversary, on the 24th February, of Russia’s war of
\naggression against this country. Parliament reiterated Romania’s firm
\nsupport for the heroic fight of Ukraine and its people and the respect for the
\ncourage, dignity and resistance demonstrated by the Ukrainian army and the
\ncivilian population. <\/p>\n

The declaration states that the Russian
\nFederation unilaterally and without provocation started a war of aggression
\nagainst Ukraine, escalating previous violations of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial
\nintegrity through the illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014. Romanian senators
\nand deputies are warning of the deterioration of the humanitarian tragedy of
\nthe Ukrainian civilian population, the suffering of millions of people
\nunprecedented in the history of Europe post-WWII being deliberately caused by
\nthe Russian aggressor as part of a premeditated, cynical and brutal strategy to
\ncrush the entire Ukrainian nation. Romanian MPs also reiterated Romania’s
\nunyielding support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity
\nwithin its internationally recognised borders. They emphasise that all attempts
\nto change Ukraine’s borders by force, through decisions to illegally annex
\nparts of Ukraine, ever since 2014, are in stark violation of the UN Charter and
\ninternational law. <\/p>\n

In light of this, the Romanian Parliament
\nrequests that Moscow ends the war without delay and urgently withdraws all its
\ntroops and military equipment from the entire territory of Ukraine as
\nrecognised internationally. Last but not least, Romanian senators and deputies
\nrequest that the Russian Federation immediately puts an end to its rhetoric
\nconcerning the use of nuclear weapons and its actions of intimidation against
\nother states, as well as its groundless accusations concerning the alleged use of
\nbiological weapons by Ukraine. <\/p>\n

The declaration adopted by the Romanian
\nParliament further states that Romanian senators and deputies support the need
\nfor Romania’s substantial engagement in the future post-conflict reconstruction
\nof the Ukrainian state and for boosting support, in particular for the civilian
\npopulation. Romanian MPs also voice the need for the Romanian state to equally
\nconcentrate its efforts on supporting the EU accession process of Ukraine, the
