The Romanian defence minister, Angel
\nT\u00eelv\u0103r, and health minister, Alexandru Rafila, have signed a number of
\nfinancing contracts for healthcare infrastructure investment projects under the
\nNational Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP). <\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
The funds will be channeled into military
\nhospitals around the country, as well as other hospitals in Bucharest and Constan\u0163a
\n(south-east). The emergency military hospitals in Sibiu (centre), Pite\u015fti (south),
\nCraiova (south-west) and Bra\u015fov (centre) will receive money for revamping and
\nfor building new wards. <\/p>\n

The defence minister says patients’
\nconfidence in military hospitals is quite high and emphasized that substantial
\nfunding will be used for such hospitals. <\/p>\n

Angel T\u00eelv\u0103r: The documents I am honoured to sign today
\ntogether with Mr. Rafila, the health minister, allow the financing of new
\nbuildings for 4 military hospitals in the country, which will receive around
\nEUR 81 mln under Component 12, Healthcare, of the RRP. <\/p>\n

<\/p>\n
Also under the RRP, in Bucharest a new TB
\ndiagnosis and treatment centre will be built, using some EUR 26 mln. The
\nmanager of the Pneumophtysiology Institute, Beatrice Mahler, explains that this
\ninvestment will benefit both patients, and the specialists in the field: <\/p>\n

Beatrice Mahler: This investment
\nhas been long awaited by Romanian TB patients, who fortunately, thanks to this
\nkind of investments, will no longer feel stigmatised, but also by the
\nhealthcare staff, because we want not only patients to be safe, but the
\npersonnel as well. <\/p>\n

In turn, the health minister
\npointed out that funding will be earmarked next for the revamping of family
\nphysician practices: <\/p>\n

Alexandru Rafila: We will soon
\nfinalise all the investment contracts, both for hospital healthcare and for
\noutpatient facilities, including family physician practices, for which the
\nfinal stage will be soon reached, allowing for their financing, revamping and
\nequipment procurement. <\/p>\n

The newly signed contracts also cover
\nthe building of a new mother and child health facility as part of the Constan\u0163a
\nEmergency Hospital, and the extension of the Municipal Polyclinic there. <\/p>\n

The National Recovery and Resilience Plan is designed to ensure the development of Romania, by increasing its
\nresilience in crisis situations after the COVID-19 pandemic, and by
\ncapitalising on the country’s economic growth potential, through major reforms
\nand key investments. In order to receive funding,
\nMember States submit their national plans to the European Commission, and
\nreceive money in instalments, until August 2026, depending on their meeting specific benchmarks. Romania benefits
