\nEU commissioner for transport
\nAdina V\u0103lean and Moldova’s minister for infrastructure and
\nregional development Lilia Dabija signed in Chi\u015fin\u0103u an agreement
\nassociating Moldova with the Connecting Europe Facility programme.
\nMoldovan project promoters will from now on be able to apply for EU
\nfunding for projects of common interest in the transport, energy and
\ndigital domains aimed at improving this country’s connectivity with
\nits EU neighbours. <\/p>\n

We got some good news on Europe Day – an
\nagreement was signed enabling our country to join the Connecting
\nEurope mechanism. Moldova and the European Union are making concrete
\nsteps for us to become part of the European family as soon as
\npossible, said Moldova’s president Maia Sandu. The agreement
\nwill support the integration of the Republic of Moldova into
\nthe EU single market and stimulate economic growth, job creation and
\ncompetitiveness. This country has been strongly affected by Russia’s
\nwar of aggression against Ukraine and the European Union continues to
\nstand in solidarity with Moldova and is committed to further
\nconsolidating its resilience. Tuesday’s
\nagreement brings Moldova even closer to the European Union by
\nanchoring it in its interconnected trans-European networks. <\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Other
\nagreements signed in Chi\u015fin\u0103u in the presence of EU commissioner
\nAdina V\u0103lean and Moldovan prime minister Dorin Recean concern the
\nmodernisation of three bridges over the river Prut. Repair works on
\nthe three cross-border bridges will be funded by the Romanian
\ngovernment by the end of 2027 and form part of the European Moldova
\n2030 national development strategy. The modernisation of the bridges
\nwill ease movement between the two states, facilitate internal and
\ninternational trade and enhance the connectivity between Moldova and
\nthe European Union. <\/p>\n

On Europe Day, the European Parliament voted to
\nprovide additional assistance for the Republic of Moldova worth 145
\nmillion euros to help cover part of its funding needs for this year.
\nRising inflation and energy prices were among some of the most severe
\neffects of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict on Moldova, and the energy
\ncrisis and a drop in household earnings and investments have further
\nincreased the pressure on public finance. Romanian MEP Siegfried
\nMure\u015fan said non-reimbursable funds account for 45 million euros,
\nwhile the rest of 100 million euros is in the form of an advantageous
\nloan. The money goes to Moldova’s budget to be used as the
\nauthorities see as the best way to support the people and the
