The main sporting event of the weekend is the start of the Winter Olympic Games in Milan known as Milano Cortina 2026. It is the largest winter sports event in history, bringing to the start over 3,500 athletes from 93 countries, who will compete for 195 medals in 16 Olympic disciplines. The competitions will take place in eight Italian towns, becoming, in terms of surface area, the largest edition of the Winter Olympic Games in history. The Romanian delegation is made up of 29 athletes, who will compete in 9 disciplines.<\/p>\n

We now move on to handball, because this weekend games will be played in the European competitions for women’s teams. In the Champions League, Group A, on Saturday, Gloria Bistri\u021ba will play away against the French team Metz. On Sunday, in Group B, CSM Bucure\u0219ti will meet, at home, another French team: Brest Bretagne. With three rounds remaining in this phase of the competition, both Romanian teams occupy 4th<\/sup> place in their groups. The top two teams in each group will go directly to the quarterfinals. The teams in 3rd<\/sup>, 4th<\/sup>, 5th<\/sup> and 6th<\/sup> places will play play-off matches for a place in the quarterfinals. The teams in 7th<\/sup> and 8th<\/sup> places leave the competition.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The EHF European League enters the second part of the group stage, with the fourth round. Minaur Baia Mare, the leader of Group A, will play on Saturday, at home, against the German team Th\u00fcringer. On Sunday, Rapid Bucure\u0219ti, the team ranked 2nd<\/sup> in Group C, will face another German team, Oldenburg, away, and Corona Bra\u0219ov, ranked 3rd<\/sup> in Group D, will meet, at home, the Danish team Viborg. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Matches are scheduled for the weekend in the Romanian Super League championship, counting for the 26th<\/sup> round of the regular season. On Friday, two games will be played: FC Arge\u0219 with Hermannstadt and Dinamo Bucure\u0219ti with Petrolul Ploie\u0219ti. On Saturday, Unirea Slobozia receives the visit of the Farul Constan\u021ba team, Csikszereda faces, in Miercurea Ciuc, UTA Arad, and the evening ends with the Cluj derby, between CFR and Universitatea. On Sunday, FC Boto\u0219ani plays at home with Metaloglobus, and O\u021belul will play, in Gala\u021bi, with FCSB. In the last match of the round, on Monday, Dinamo and Universitatea Craiova will meet, in Bucharest. Craiova leads the standings, with 49 points. Rapid and Dinamo follow, with 48. CFR Cluj and FCSB, teams that have dominated Romanian football in recent years, are still outside the ranking zone that qualifies for the play-offs. The Cluj team is one point away from 6th<\/sup> place, and the Bucharest team, the defending champions, is two points away.
