The President of the opposition National Liberal Party Crin Antonescu in Washington on Tuesday met Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy and Programs.Robert Manogue. Antonescu pleaded for the enhancement of the bilateral strategic partnership\u2019s economic dimension. Special emphasis was laid on the trans-Atlantic partnership for trade and investments, which is still subject to negotiation between the USA and the European Union. According to the press release, the creation of a single trade area from Hawaii to the Black Sea is the most audacious project for which the European Union and the USA have announced their commitment. In a series of talks Crin Antonescu held this past Monday with the Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian affairs Hoyt Yee, the Romanian National Liberal Party leader demanded an enhanced American presence in Eastern Europe.<\/p>\n

Great Britain\u2019s Crown Prince Charles has visited the Romanian Cultural Institute in London, where for three days running the Transylvania Festival will be held. Prince Charles has two properties in central Romania\u2019s Transylvania, where he traveled several times. Prince Charles is concerned with the preservation of historical monuments in the region and he got involved in the reconstruction program of several settlements, some of which being included on UNESCO\u2019s world heritage list.<\/p>\n

The London newspaper the Daily Telegraph <\/em><\/strong>has published official surveys compiled in February, revealing that major migration-related problems are not fuelled by Romanians and Bulgarians. According to the survey, the number of migrants coming from Italy has grown by 66 per cent in one year alone, the Spaniards are 33 per cent more in Great Britain, while the number of Portuguese has increased by 47 per cent. British Prime Minister David Cameron refused to make any comments before the official data were made public. However, Cameron said it was amazing to have such large numbers of migrants coming from the European Union\u2019s older member states, instead of those from European Union\u2019s newer Eastern European countries, where the migrants wave was expected.\u201d<\/p>\n
By the end of the year the European Union could waive entry clearance procedures for Ukrainian citizens — the Ukrainian Justice Minister Pavel Petrenko has announced on his Facebook page. Ukraine has complied with all the legal requirements to bring its national legislation in line with EU standards and is prepared to move on to the second phase of the liberalization of the visa regime with the EU countries, Ukraine\u2019s justice minister also said. The Parliament in Kiev on Tuesday passed a law package required for the liberalization of the visa regime with the European Union.<\/p>\n
Eighteen productions have entered the competition for the Palme D\u2019Or Award at the 67th Edition of the Cannes Film Festival. This year\u2019s opening production is \u201cGrace de Monaco\u201d a controversial film, depicting an episode in the life of actress Grace Kelly. The production representing Romania in Cannes this year is Radu Jude\u2019 s short reel \u201cIt Can Pass Through the Wall\u201d in the Quinzaine des Realisateurs <\/em>section. At the Cannes Film Festival, Romania\u2019s most notable feat so far has been the Palme D\u2019Or award, which in 2007 went to filmmaker and screenwriter Cristian Mungiu\u2019s production \u201c Four Months, Three Weeks and Two Days\u201d.<\/p>\n
