Tennis player Ana Bogdan is Athlete of the Week
At the end of last week, Romanian tennis player Ana Bogdan won the ITF tournament in Dubai with 100 thousand dollars in prize money. As this was the best performance obtained by the Romanian athletes in the past days, Radio Romania International has designated Ana Bogdan the Athlete of the week.
In Dubai, Ana first outperformed Dalma Galfi of Hungary 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. Then she obtained wins against Viktoria Kuzmova of Slovakia 6-1, 6-4 and against Katarzyna Kawa of Poland 6-2, 6-2. Greet Minnen of Belgium proved to be a real challenge for Ana in the semifinals but the Romanians managed to win the game in three sets 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
In the finals Ana secured a two set win against Ukrainian challenger Daria Snigur 6-1, 6-2 and that became the most notable performance in Ana's career so far. Her performance in Dubai, prompted Ana on top of the Race for Shenzen Rankings with 200 points, followed by Vitalia Diatchenko of Russia and Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium.
Ana Bogdan was worn in Sinaia, southern Romania, on November 25th 1992 and took up tennis at the tender age of 4. She made her debut in the ITF circuits in 2007 but only in 2014 she made it to a WTA tournament, the one in Bad Gastein. Between 2016 and 2018 she made it to the semis of several WTA tournaments and in June 2018 she occupied the highest position in the world rankings in her career, the 59th place. She is presently ranking 105th in the world rankings.
