A recent scandal has flared up in Romanian football. A series of articles in Romanian sports newspapers have put forward match-fixing allegations linked to the game pitting Bucharest side Dinamo against Italian contenders Lazio, crucial for the qualificat
For having fixed the match back in 2007, Dinamo allegedly received an unusually big sum of money for their footballer Stefan Radu’s transfer to Lazio. Officially, the sum stood at 4 million Euro, but the then Dinamo football manager, Mircea Rednic, told ProSport that no less than 7.2 million Euro had been paid, an unusually large sum for a Romanian League One defender. In turn, former Dinamo shareholder, Vladimir Cohn, and the then club general manager, Cornel Dinu, reinforced the match-fixing allegations for the aforementioned game.
For clarifications, the National Anti-Corruption Directorate summoned former football agents Ioan and Victor Becali, as well as former Dinamo Bucharest shareholder, Cristian Borcea. Borcea and the Becali brothers have already received a final prison sentence, in another transfer-related file. The former Dinamo manager received a 6 years and 4 months prison sentence, just like Ioan Becali. Victor Becali was sentenced to 4 years and 8 months imprisonment.
