Romanian football stronghold Steaua Bucharest has had a bad start in their scheduled preparation program in Spain.
In Marbella, the Romanian League One leader lost the game against Scottish side Celtic Glasgow, 1-2. We recall the Scots have already qualified for the Champions League’s eighth finals.
Steaua’s Nikolici drew first blood on 13 minutes scoring from 16 meters. In minute 51, the Greek Iorgios Samaras who played for Celtic in the second half of the game scored from a one-meter distance, capitalizing on a ball centered from the right side. Celtic went one goal up on 54 minutes: a ball centered from the right-hand side was turned into a goal by Mohamed Bangoura’s header. Keeper Ciprian Tatarusanu sustained an injury while he was warming up, and in for him on the pitch was Razvan Stanca.
Steaua Bucharest’s forthcoming official game will be the one against the Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam in the Europa League’ s 16thfinals. Steaua will play the tie’s first on February 14, starting at 8 p.m. while on February the 21stthey will be playing the return leg on home turf, starting 22.05 p.m.
One of last season’s pleasant surprises, Panduri Targu Jiu, have resumed their training as this past Wednesday they started their first training session on the Municipal Stadium. The manager of the club’s second-tier team, Florin Bejenaru, led the session that saw Pandurii’s 29 footballers getting together on the pitch. Pandurii’s main manager Petre Grigoras submitted his resignation on Tuesday; yet he attended the session to bid farewell from the footballers. Pandurii Targu Jiu will have their preparation stage in Antalya, between January the 21stand February the 2nd, and will be taking on Volga Novgorod form Russia and Horizont Tirnovo from Macedonia.
Romanian national football team’s manager Victor Piturca has summoned 23 footballers currently playing in the domestic championship for the preparation tour the national squad will have in Spain between January the 27thand February the 7th. The tour’s first game is scheduled in Malaga on February the 2nd, starting 21.45 hours local time, as the Romanians will be pitted against Poland’s domestic-only squad. Then in Marbella the Romanians will be taking on the team of Australia on February the 6th, starting 21 hours local time.
