The European Games are underway in Minsk. After five days of competition, Romania is 14th-placed. So far, the Romanians' medal tally includes one gold medal, two silver and four bronze medals. Russia is at the top of the table with 24 gold, 13 silver and 16 bronze medals. Then host country Belarus is 2nd-placed, with 14 gold, 9 silver and 18 bronze medals.
Laura Georgeta Coman won gold in the 10-meter air rifle event. Silver went to Dan Barna and Andreea Bogati in aerobic gymnastics’ mixed pairs. For Romania, the second silver medal was won by Ovidiu Ionescu and Bernadette Szőcs in the table tennis mixed doubles event.
All three sambo fighters won silver, Daniela Poroineanu, in the 56-kilogram category, Anda Mihaela Vâlvoi, in the 64-kilogram category and Alina-Petronela Paunescu in the plus 80 category. Also bronze went to Romania's representatives in group aerobic gymnastics. They are Gabriel Bocşer, Mihai Alin Popa, Dacian Nicolae Barna, Dorin Marian Broţei and Andreea Bogati.
Travelling to Minsk was a 123-strong Romanian delegation competing in all 15 sports disciplines: athletics, 3-on-3 basketball, badminton, boxing, cycling, beach football, artistic, aerobic and rhythmic gymnastics, judo, kayak-canoe, women’s Greek-Roman and freestyle wrestling, sambo, table tennis, shooting sports and archery. Results in athletics, badminton, cycling, judo, karate, table tennis, archery and shooting sports count towards the qualification for the 2020 edition of the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
